DANTE oevroCHroLr, Yor NEW vorm, N. Y.
V'.rov SHOOTER.
Applicationriled February 7, 1923. Serial No. 617,451.
To all whom t may concern.' y.
Be it known that I, DANTE CAvrccHroLr,
at New Yorlnvin the county of NewA York and State of New York, have invented certain new and usefullmprovements in Toy` Shooters, of which the followingeis a specication, such as 'will enable those'slrilled in the art to Ywhich it appertains to `make and use .thesamel l v n.,
This invention relates to toy shooters or devices designed to-advance balls, rings or the like inthe playing ot-games'ofvarious `kinds and classes, and particularly in ad-` vancing such bodies to strike predetermined objects, andtheobject of 4the invention is to provide adevice of the class specified "-.f whichissimple inconstruction, eicient in use and which is constructed as hereinafter described and claimed. f
The invention (is fully disclosed in the followingspeciication, oit which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts ot' myimprovement are designatedV by suitable Vreference characters in each of the views, and in which Fig. 1 is a sectional side View of one form ol shooter' device which I employ;
' Fig. 2 a plan view of a device shown in Fig. 1 with part ot the construction broken away; x
Fig. 3 a section on the line 3 -3 oit Fig. 1; Fig. 4 a view similar to Fig. 1 but showing a modified form ot shooter device;
Fig. 5 a plan view of the' device shown inV Fig. 4 with part of theconstruct-ion broken wav; f i' Fig a side viewo't' a combination of the shooter devices4 shown in Figs. 1 to 5 inclusive;
UFig. 7 a side Fig. 8 a Section Von the line 8 8 of Fig. 7. InFigs. 1 and 2 of the drawing I have shownl one Iform of my improved shooterA tending vtrigger portion 13 inwardly of' whicha coil spring 14 Visniounted on 'said' rod and. serves: to advance the same when view of another modified form of shooter; and,
the trigger is actuated. The handle member 12 is provided at its front end with a cross head 15h through which the rod 11 passes, 55 and that portion ot the handle member of the shooter is hollowand comprises side plates 16 which project beyondthe cross head 15 to .form a receiver 17 for a ball or similar member 18.
Slidably mounted on the plate 16 is a sleeve V19which is apertured as indicated at 20 to lock` the trigger member 13 against movement, and this sleeve serves as a safety lock forvthe shooter, and Aone of the side plates 1,64, is alsoapertured as shown at 21 to normally hold Athe trigger as well as the rod 11 in an inoperative or retarded position as shown in Fig of the drawing.
lPivotally mounted to the cross head 15 is a door member 22 which extends into the receiver 17, which serves to retain the ball against accidental displacement in the re echter-17. 1 rlhe receiver 17 is also provided with inwardly directed projections 23 which limit 'the upward movement of the door member. V
In the use of' the shooter shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, the advancing rod 1 1 is moved inte the positionshown in Fig. 1 and retained in such position by the trigger member 13, after which a ball is placed in the receiver by opening the door 22 and they shooter is ready for use, and by disengaging the trigger member 13 from the aperture 21 the rod 11 will be advanced through the shooter device and the head 12 of the rod will advance the ball 18 through the receiver 17 to any desired object which it is desired to strike. l 90 In Figs. 4 and 5 of the drawing I have shown a modified form oit shooter which is designed particularly for advancing ringlike bodies 24 and, 'in practice, said bodies are provided with va notch 25. With this shooter I provide a handle member 2G on the opppsite sides oit whichjare mounted springlmembers 27, the itree endsot which project beyond the handle member and are beaded as shown at Y28 and at the opposite sides of the handle member are other spring member V29 and 30, the spring lmember 29 being provided with an offset substantially semicircular head' 31, while the spring a loor or through the airin ,member 3() is providedV with Vai projecting lip` 32. In the use of the shooter shown n1 Figs. 4 and 5 the'notch 25 of the ring body is placed upon "the `projection 3240i: the springand the -ring body is then forced inwardly between the spring members 27V and is provided at the otherA end thereofY thus providing :a shooter device* capable Vof advancing two different kindsor shapes l' ofbodiea'namely, a 'ball or ringbody.
Y fIn"`F igs.,-" vand of'tl1e"`drawing,`I have shown-a modified iormoshooter for ad- 'y ao Y foi-in aikee'per 38 which engages the notch` vancing ring bodies `in which tivoljaw Vinembers 33 a1id Baai-e pivote'd together at one end as vshown at 35, said j aw'members being substantially y U-shaped in i cross section,` Y and one of saidk jaw members'bfeingf provided with a pa'rt`3`6l encirclingthe other of said `jawfmembers to limitzthe separation of said jaw members and afspri-ng? is placed be` tween thejaw members to normally holdfthe same in an :extended position. The""other .end portion of the jaw member 34, orthe` cross 4head thereof, is'pressed inwardly to 25 in the ring body 24j and the l'rce end ol thelother jawniember 33 -is provided with a Curved spring member 39 similar to the spring'member 3l. and the use of the shooter device shown in Fig. 7 will be'the same as Vthe shooter shown in Figs.` Yelto G inclusive,
it being understoodthat the vjaw members 33, and '34 arevpressed together in the advancement of the ring body S24.
"Itfwill benoted in Figs, t ando ofthe drawing-'that I employ an adjustment screw 40 alt-the outer end ci the handle member and the object oi this screw to regulate and adapt the device Vlfor nsein advancingring'fbodies of various sizes within certain limits. Itw'i'll 'be understood that `when a' smaller-'ringbody is usedfy the screiv'l'iead 'is moved outwardly. Y It will Abe understood tha'tmy invention` is'iiot necessarilyl'imitcdto-thc specific "torni i and construction 'of the "separatesl'ioote'rs hereinv shown and described, nori'o the use ol" said shooters in advancing a body olany speclficsliape or. ornnfand various 'changes Vin 'and modilications of the construction herein'shown and describedfmay be "Iliade, ywithin the "scope''o'f thejapp'ended "claims, without departing i'romthe spirit 'of mydnventionor Ysacrificing itsV advantages.
I-Iaving fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire'to secure by Letters Patent, is :-VA
