Specification forming part of Letters latent No. 1116,41 3, dated January 13, 1874; application filed November 15, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN VANDEROAR, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State following is a specification:
The invention Will first be fully described, and then pointed out in the claim.

A represents the section. B are chambers, which are to be iilled with cement, sand, or other suitable material. (l is the bottom, which rests upon the foundation of the road. D is a iiange on the bottom of the section. This flange may run the whole length of the section, or only part Way, or it may be made in short pieces, and thus form atbroken flange. are not likely to become displaced, but they maybe made to lock together so as to support each other. y

will give a good foothold for horses, and prevent the constant slipping which strains and ruins so many horses in frostyweather. These chambers maybe eight or ten inches in depth, and may be iilled with Wood, if desired.
