Be it known that I, HARBYAM. llALKER, a citiuen of thc United States, residing ai. (irayburg, inthe county of Hardin and State of Texas, have invented certainneiv and useful Improvements in Check-Controlled Mechanisms, of which the following' isa specification, reference Vbein-g had vto' the accompanying drawings. y
This invention relates to check controlled mechanisms and has relation more particu-r larly to a mechanism of this general character especially designed and adapted for use in connection with an endwise movable member, such as the operatingr ruck for the piston com rised in a gasoline or kindred liquid vendlngl machine, and it is an ohject of the invention to'provide a mechanism of this general character having novel and improved menus whereby said endwise movable member is normally held or locked against` movement in a direction to effect -n lift or delivery of the liquid.

As the rack or member 1 moveswupwardly, the pin 24 comes into contact with the spring arm 23 resultin in the upper arm of the dog 14 being dlsengaged from the rack or member 1 and the lower arm of said dog engaged with the rack or member 1 whereby sai rack or member 1 is held against further upward movement or free to be moved in the reverse direction.

With. a asoline station or the like equipped wit a mechanism constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my in vention, the station may be operated u n the deposit of a coinof desired value wiiin the chute 5 so that a customer can help himself without the assistance of an attendant and which is particularly desirable during the hours when it is not convenient for the owner to have his place of business open.
lt is to he understood that after the check or coin C is deposited in the chute 5, the plunger S is moved by pull upon the stem 1U a distance sufficient to permit the check to drop in the runway 6 in advance of the plunger 8. The stem 10 is then released and the. tension of the spring or member 9 is suflicient to force the check or coin C under the roller 20 and thereby operate the dog 14 to permit. the rack or member 1 to be moved upwardly upon requisite operation of the operating member or crank 22.
Then the dog 14 is moved into a neutral position or in a osition with both of the arms free from tile rack, the pump can be operated without the use of the check controlled mechanism.
From the foregoing descripi ion it is thought to lie obvious that a cheri; controlled mechanism constructed in acuerden@ with my invention is particularly well adapted lor use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated, and it will also be, obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change an modification `without departing Afrom the priinriples arid spirit thereof and for this reason l lo not wish to be understood as limiting mlysclf to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice exceiif as hereinafter claimed.

In combination with a member supported for endwise movement, a dog pivotally supported adjacent the member and provided with a pair of arms one of said arms en agin the member when the other arm is ee ereroxn to hold the member against movement in one direction, the second arm engaging the member to hold the member against movement ,in the opposite direction when the first named arm is free therefrom, check controlled means for swinging the dog to engage one arm and disengage the second arm from the member, an expansible member co-acting with the dog for urging each of the arms into contact with the member, and means for moving the member.
