1 burner for the uniform deposition of lampblack. upon working surfaces of iron molds. Figure I shows a cross sectional elevation of the burner.
Figure II shows the application of this burner to the mechanism described in my cogending application, Serial No. 590,913, filed eptember 27, 1922, from which this application is divided.
In Figure II, KK represents a pair of coacting molds which are to be protected by a coating of lampblack. These molds KK are mounted on a rotating table Z and are mechanically opened at a predetermined point in the revolution of the table to admit the burner P which is suspended from the shaft G by means of a bearing M. Gas is admitted to the burner P through the bearing M, which is hollow, and the pipe 0. The shaft G, which serves as a' pivot on which the burner P oscillates, is bolted by means of the bearing H to the cage S, which in its turn is provided with four wheels CC and DD. These wheels run on a track A and are carriedwith the moving molds K by means of the arm I which in its turn engages with the projection J from the mold K. The track A is inclined insuch a manner that the burner P is raised as it is rotated with the molds K. When the arm I esca es from engagement with the projection gravity returns the burner P to engage with the next succeeding pair of molds on the rotating table Z. Another track B is provided which is undulatin and with this track B arm F and roller engage. This arm F Serial No. 619,557.
is locked to a shaft G hence not only does the, burner P travel with the molds KK but 1t is also raised up slightly and oscillated whilst it is being so raised. The purpose of all this mechanism being to get a uniform coating but the details of this are covered in the above mentioned co-pending applicaion.
.A hydrocarbon gas rich in carbon, for exscends in 0, through X, ensures that the maximum pressure exists at the bottom burner so a uniform desposition of lamp black is secured. If the descending passage X were omitted the upper burners would re ceive an excessive, and the lower burners would receive only an inadequate, suppl of gas and a uniform coating of lamp b ack would not be secured, which is the purpose of this invention.
What I claim is:
1. In a burner for depositing lamp black on the surface of molds, a downwardly extending passage, a plurality of upwardly extending passages connected to said downwardly extending passage, a plurality of burners located in said upwardly extending passages.
2. In a burner for depositing lamp black on the surface of molds, a downwardly extending passage, an upwardly extending passage connected to said downwardly extending passage, a, plurality of burnersiocated in said upwardly extending assage.
