SMOKE CONSUMER.

To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, FREDERICK P. FISCHER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Smoke Consumers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in smoke consumers, andhas for its object the provision of a smoke consumer, which will be simple in structure, economic. of manufacture and highly eilicient in use. Another object is the provision in a smoke consumer of means for delivering live steam and exhaustv steam into the combustion chamber of a fire box. Another object is to provide a smoke consumer insertable in the combustion chamber of a fire box which will be adapted to deliver air and steam over a large area. of the combustion chamber.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed. .l
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which,

The preferred form of constructioncomprises a tubular member 6 which is flattened at one end 7, so as to present a narrow and broadened orifice. The tubular member 6 is adapted to be inserted through the wall of the fire box so that the end 7 communicates withthe interior of the combustion chamber. In mounting the: member 6 in thefire box, the same is mounted in the most advantageous position so that air or steam driven through the end 7 `will be delivered overV the fire and deliver to the combustible matter contained in the fire box a quantity of oxygen for assisting in the combustion. The opposite end of the member 6 is threaded into a reducer 8, the pipe 6 being threaded into the smaller end. The member 8 communicates with the exterior of the fire box. Threaded into the opposite end of the tee is a nut 12 secured within whichis ka pipe 13 which extends through i the pipe 11 and beyond the inner` or free end thereof. l Secured to the outer end of the pipe 13 is a suitable elbow 14 connected to a pipe 14" which is in communication with the steam exhaust of a boiler with which the device is used. The member 9 isat intervals when the device is in use, live steam is turned on into the pipe 9. Whenl the steam passes through the pipes 11 and 13, a suction is created whichdraws air inwardly through the open end of the member 8, and causes the same to discharge through the end 7 of the pipe 6 into the combustion chamber.
As is readily understood by ythose skilled y 7 in the art, exhaust steam being nearer condensation than live steam, will when ejected through the pipe 13 over the combustion chamber of a boiler, discharge a quantity of f water vapor over the products of combus-` tion in the -chamber and thus manufactur-v ing an artificial gas. The artificial gas thus formed, commingling` with atmospheric air, which is admitted through the pipes 6 and 8, causes the particles of combustion to be consumed, which wouldl otherwise be discharged through the smoke stack of the boiler.V As herein mentioned, live steam is turned on into the pipe 9 at intervals'and` when desired, both lexhaust and live steam can be used together as well as separately, the object being such that I find upon discharging the live steam separately or together with the exhaust steam, through the orifice of the pipe 6, the suction of atmos-y departing from the spirit of the invention.,` i
I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth` but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claim. c
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and" desire to secure by Let-k A device ofthe class described incliuling and in communication with said steam pipe and extending into the interior of said tubular member, a plug having a central opening formeditherein at the opposite end of said tee, and :i pipe passing through the opening of said plug and said second named pipe and extending` beyond the inner end of said pipe 15 for delivering` Water vapor to the interior of said tubular member to be ejected through said orifice by the steam from said second named pipe.
