IMPROVEMENT IN WASHlNG-MACHINES..
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. l46,l35, dated January 6, 1874; application filed April 16,1873.
To all whom it may cmwew:
Be it known that I, DANIEL W. LINN, of Courtland, Illinois, have iuvented certain Improvements in VVashing-Machines, of which the following is a specificaton:
This invention consists of a closed frame or box, in which are arranged two conveX-shaped rollers, which are connected together and operated by a broad endless band passing around the same, and possessng one or more loops or holders, to which the clothes are secured to enable them to be carried around by said band. In connection with one of said rollers is arranged a series of small conoaVe-shaped compression-rollers, which are caused to eXert a pressure against the clothes as they are being revolved, and assist in cleansing the same.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a central vertical section of my washing-machine; Fig. 2, a transverse Vertical section of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 a top or plan View.
The closed frane or box B has on its interior two vertical standards or strips, E E, near the lower and upper ends of which are journaled rollers D D, which are convex in form, and from one of said rollers projects a crankarm, W, for operatin g the same. Around these two rollers passes an endless band, C, which connects the same together, and upon this belt is arranged one or more metal strips, I, from which depend loops I', the object of which is to hold the clothes upon the belt while the same is being revolved. The clothes to be cleansed are secured to the loop by passing one standards, on opposite sides of the roller D, p
is journaled a series of small compression-ro11- ers, a a' I b', which are concave in shape, and
are caused to press against the band G by the i springs xx. The standards H are supported at their upper ends by means of hooksz, projecting from the frame, or otherwise. By means of the belt C passing around the rollers D, and the small compression-rollers arranged in proper relation thereto, as shown, the clothes attached to the band are carried through the suds and water, and between the corresponding rollers, by a continuous and uniformpmotion, which has the effect of thoroughly and effectually cleansing the Clothes.
I claim as my invention--` The rollers D D, having the band C passing around the same, and possessing one or more holders, as described, in combination with each other and with a series of compression-rollers, a a' I) b', arranged in connection with the roller D, substantially as specified, for the purpose set forth. i
