FRUIT-PICKERS BAG;

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WILLIAM T. MINOR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ashland, in the county of Jackson, State of Oregon, have invented a new and useful Fruit-Pickers Bag; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

The invention relates to fruit pickers bags, and has for its object to provide a device of this character comprising a frame,

5 said frame at one side thereof being bent to string in its bottom whereby the bottom may be closed.

A further object is to provide the opposite ends of the frame with hooks over which the draw string may be hooked for maintaining the bag closed at its bottom during a picking operation. Also to r0- vide in combination with the bag and body encircling loop a shoulder strap adapted to pass over the shoulder of the user in such a manner that the weight of the bag and contents will be suspended from the shoulder.

With the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.

In the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of the bag showing thev bottom thereof open.

Figure 2 is a perspective view of the frame.

Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates the body of the bag which may be formed from canvas or any other material, and 2 and 3 draw strings carried by the bottom thereof whereby the bottom of the bag may be closed or opened. Secured within the top of the bag 1 is a frame 4, preferably formed from heavy wire bent to the elongated shape shown in Figure 2, and

also bent to form upwardly extending loops 5. -The loops 5 receive the hooks 7 of an adjustable stra 8, which strap is adapted tov extend around the body of the operator for holding the bag close to the operator during a picking operation and will be in easy reach of the operators hand especially when leaning during the picking operation. Extending upwardly from the bag 1 is an adjustable shoulder engaging strap 9 adapted to be passed over the shoulder of the operator for suspending the weight of the device from the shoulder, in such a manner that the operator may easily move during the picking operation without interference from the bag.

The opposite ends 10 of the frame 1 are provided with hooks 11 over which the draw strings 2 and 3 may be booked for holding the bottom 12 of the bag 1 closed. When the operator desires to empty the bag he unhooks the strings 2 and 3 from one of the hooks 11 and the weight of the fruit within the bag 1 will open the bag 12 thereof so that the fruit will pass downwardly from the bag. Each hook 11 is formed from a single piece of wire bent to form the upwardly extending portion 13 and upwardly extending arms 14: and 15, which arms 14 and 15 are connected to the end 10 of the frame 1 by means of eyes 16 and 17. The eye 17 is provided with an arm 18, which extends inwardly in relation" to the frame 4 and is connected to the longitudinal portion 19 of said frame by means of an eye 20. The arm 18 forms means for preventing pivotal movement of the hook 11 on the frame and bracing the hook when the draw strings 2 and 3 are hooked thereon. The frame 4 is preferably formed from a single piece of wire having its adjacent ends connected together by means of a sleeve 21.

From the above it will be seen that a fruit pickers bag is provided which is simple in construction, the parts reduced to a minimum, and one wherein the weight is equally disposed on the operator in such a manner that he may lean from side to side or forwardly and rearwardly during a picking, operation. The hooked members 11 are preferably disposed outside of the canvas on the frame 1, as shown in Figure 1, thereby allowing the hooks to be easily placed in position and the hooks to be utilized for clamping the canvas on the frame 4.
