ALBUM FOR DISK nnconns.
' T Application filed February 7, 1922, Serial No. 534,701.
T 0 all'wizom it may 507mm Be i known thatLWVILLIA TILBURGER, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Brooklyn, in the county' of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new'and useful Improvements in Albums for Disk Records, of which thefollowing is a full, clear, and exact specification.
This invention relates to loose leaf albums for disk records, and hasfor itsobject to improve the construction of the leaves and the means for retaining themin the'album.
Another object is to provide a channeled back member of improved construction havingsintegral end flanges for'closing the'ends of the groove in which the inner edges of the leaves are secured. 'Other'objects will appear as the description proceeds. I
The invention will be first hereinafter described in connection with the accompanying drawings, which constitute part of this specification, and then. more specifically defined in the claims at the end of the description.
In th accompanying drawings, wherein similar reference characters are used to designa'te corresponding parts throughout the several views Figure 1 is a sectional view through the back of an album constructed substantially in accordance with this invention. 1
Figure 2 is a longitudinal section on the line 11-11 of Figure 1. j
Figure 3 is a detailed plan view of the back member.
Figure 4: is a detailed view of one of the binding members or bars, and v Figure '5 is a detailed sectional view of one of the record-holding leaves or envelopes.
The back member 1 may be made of wood or any other suitable material, such as molded paper composition, or the like, and has a convex outer face 2 from the marginal portions of which longitudinal ribs 3 extend inwardly at the sides of the groove 4. The base 5 of said groove isconvex, and the inner walls 6 of the ribs 3 are beveled or in-' clined outwardly away from each other so as to provide the groove with a flared entrance. The inner edges 7 of the ribs 3 are also beveled to extend substantially at right angles to the inner faces 6 thereof, as best shown in Figure 1.
The lateral edges of the back member 1 are beaded at 8, as are also the ends of said back member at 9, Figure 2, to give the desired shape to the covering 10 of cloth, or other suitable material, on the outer surface of said back member. Said cloth, or other covering, 10 is extended beyond the marginal beads 8 and secured to the front and back covers ll of the album; V
The groove 4 in the back m'ember is bridged at intervals by! leaf-retaining membersor bars 12, the ends of which are detachably secured by screws 13 to thebeveled edges 7 of the ribs 3: Said retaining mem bers are curved or arched so as to extend substantially parallel to theconvex base 5 of the groove 4-. As best shown in Figures3 and 4, said retaining members are preferably madeof sheet metal reinforced by bending if them toform longitudinal channels 14:; This construction enables a rigid retaining member to be-formed from comparatively thin sheet metal. The flanges of the :channels may be cut away as at 15, atthe ends of saidretaining members if desired to make room for the heads of the screws 13. i
The leaves or envelopes 16 for holding the disk records, are'made generally in accordance with the disclosure in mypending application filed November 2, 1921, Serial Number 512,218, but in the present instance each envelope has a single inner fold 17 which is reinforced by a strip 18 of suitable material placed therein and extending between the inner edge of said fold and the inner edge 19 ofthe envelope proper. Said reinforcing strip 18 makes the inner margin of each envelope rigid and of sufiicient thickness to enablethe perforations 20- formed therein to retain the envelope on the bars 12,
which extend through said perforations, making it unnecessary to use metaleyelets in said perforations as has been the practice in prior constructions. Owing to the flaring lapped portions 21 and 22, on opposite sides the back are inclined outwardly to engage the beveled'inner faces 6 of the back member, while the envelopes in the center are arranged substantially parallel with the covers 11 of the album.
. As best shown in Figures 2 and 3, the back member 1 has integral end flanges 23 extending between the ribs 3, and preferably ex tending slightly beyond the outer edges 7 of said ribs. These flanges 23 serve to close the ends of the groove. 4: in the back member and dispense with the use of separate metal closure plates, such as have geiierally been used for this purpose in albums of this kind.
I claim:
1. The combination with aback member having a groove in its'inner face, the lateral walls of said groove being flared for the purpose specifle'd a-nd the inner edges of said back member at the sides of the groove being beveled to extend substantially at right angles to said flared walls, of leaf-retaining members bridging the groove and secured-to,
said beveled inner edges.
2. The combination with a back member having a groove in its inner face, the lateral walls-of said groove being flared for the purpose specified, and the inner edges of said back member at the sides of the groove being beveled to extend substantially at right I angles to saidjflared walls, of leaf-retaining members bridging the groove andsecured to saidbeveled inner edges, said back member having integral flanges: extending across the ends of the groove.
3. The combination with a back member having a groove in its inner'tace, the base of said groove being convex and the lateral walls thereof being flared for the purpose 5. In an album for disk said groove being flared, of arched leafretaining members bridging said groove, covers for the album, andqenvelopes having inner marginal portions mounted on said retaining members, and fla'ringlapped porrecords, the comblnation Wltll' a back member having a. groove in its nner face, the lateral walls of specified, of arched leaf-retaining members tions at opposite-sides of the envelopes extending beyond the sides of said inner marginal portions, whereby the outer envelopes in the album conform to the flared marginal walls of the groove in the back member, while the middle leaves extend substantially parallel to the covers of the album,
In testimony whereof I' have signed my WILLIAM WILBURGER;
name to this specification.
