'Application med June 2s,
To aZZwho'nL-.z't may concern `Be it known that I, Bear R. SIGLIN, al` citizen of the United States, residing "wat Aurelia, in the county of Cherokee, State of Iowa, have'invented certa-innew anduse ful .Improvements in rHogaRinging and Loadingn Chutes; Vand I dol'hereby declare thefollowing to beafull, clear, and exact description ofthe invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make yand use the same'. This invention rela-tes to new `andluseful improvements in live-stock handling devices, and particularly to devices for loading and ringing hogs.
One object of the invention is to provide a loadingchute which is adapted for use in holding hogs while ringing them, such means being readily removable to permit the device to be used for loading and unloading the animals.
Another object of the invention is to proright operative position.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings; f y Figure 1 is a side elevation of a hogringing and loading device madein accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is an end view of the same. Figure 3 is a top plan view ofthe device. Figure 4 is a vertical transversesectional view on the line 4 4 of Figure 3, showing the means for holding the sides in upright position. Y v
Referring particularly to the accompany- `ing drawings, 10 and 11. represent a pair of arched supports, each leg of each of `which is formed with a longitudinal series of L- shaped notchesin one edge thereof, for they reception of the ends `of thetransverse bars or rods 12. The support 10 is of greater height than'thesupport 11, as clearly seen in the side and end views of the drawings; Ar-
1922. serial No. 571,481.y y.
I' li ranged lto ybe supported by the rods .12' isl the platform 13, bifurcatedf members 14 beingy secured to the lower face, of one end of.
the platform, for. straddlingv engagement withone ofthe said rods, whereby to prevent the platform sliding longitudinally of the device, vHinged tol eachofl the longer sides of theplatformlfisaslatted side iwallor y fence 15, which is .adapted to be'ffolded down onto-the. platform, when-thedevice is not in use,or when itis to be stored or transported. Projecting .horizontally from 1 vopposite sides ,ofy the platform, and secured. tothe lower face thereof, is an apertured ear- 16, andv disfv i y posed inl each of these ears isthe lower end ofa vertical rod 17, the upper'end of which is hooked, as at' 18, and engaged over the upper edge `rof the side wall 15, when said wall is in a vertical position, for the purpose of maintaining said wall in suchv vertical or upright position. f Y
Secured to the inner face of each of the side walls 15, are the pairs of battens. or
guide strips 19 and 20, the former being arranged toreceive therebetween the vertical end edges of the gate 21, while the latter is arranged to receive .therebetween the gate` 22, which latter gate is formed with ank opening 23, for'the head of a hog to be ringed. A stanchion bar24 is pivotally `mounted in' hedopening 23,' for holding the animals It"will be noted that therods 12 are so adjusted in their respective arched supports as to dispose the lrunway in aninclined po,- sition, with the higher end at the support 10j Hinged to the'upper' end ofthe platform isa tail gate 25, and hinged vto the adjacent` `end of geach side wall 15` isa horizontally swingable gate 26, the formerbeing arranged i to rest on the sill or entrance of a car doorway, or the rear end of the bed of a wagon, for/the animals to walk' upon, when being transferred. 'Ihegatesl are arranged to beclosed to stop the animals when a suilicient number have been transferred.v l
Pivotally 4connected to each leg of each 'l ofthe supports 10 and 11 is a link 27, those at each vside of the kdevice being connected i by means of a break-joint hinge 28,.whereby to permit thefsupports 10 and 11 to be moved toward each other, for the purpose of folding the device, afterthe platform has been removed andproperly folded.
j It will, of course, be understood, that` when the device is to be used as a loading or unloading device, the gates* 2l and are removed.
Also, when the device is used With the gates, for ringing` hogs, the platform. is lowered, by means of the rods 12, so that the platform is in an approximately hori- Zontal position.
As an additional meansfo. holding the bars 27 against movement, with respect to the arched members. l() and ll, removable pins Q9 are dispos ldi` through the legsofi'the arched members. and theends of said' bars, the pinsv being connected to the bars by ivmeans of the 'chains 30', to prevent loss offV the pins.
YVhat is claimed is: 1. A device of the class described includiing arched supports,l a platform ext-endingi between and adjustable on the supports, and
foldable connections between the supports.
2. A device of the class described'including a` pair. of spaced arched supports, fold-- able links connecting the supports, a plat- 'form disposed 'longitudinally between the supports, means on they platform and the supports for verticaladjustment of the ends of the platform, and toldable sides on the platform having,- means for holding the latter iuvertical` position.
A device of the class described including supports, a platform on the supports, toldable sides on the platform, apertured ears extending` laterally from the platforni,l
aud vertical rods liaviirgA theirlower ends disposed mrt-he ears andahavifng hooks-on their upper ends yeng-agedy over thegupper edges ot the 'said` sides, .said rods' lying` against the Wider faces of the-sides.- Y
