To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK C. STAN- KRAUFF, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Furnaces, 'of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to hot air furnaces, more particularly to the radiator drums' of such devices, and has for one of its objects to improve the construction and increase the eiiiciency and utility ofdevices of this character.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character whereby a direct or indirect draft may be caused to passV through the drum by simply 1nanipulating a single pull rod.
Vith these and other objects in view the invention consists in ycertain novel features p' of construction as hereinafter shown and described and then specifically pointed out in the claims, and in the drawing illustrative of the preferred embodiment ofthe invention- Figure 1 is a transverse section of the improved radiator drum.

' A radiator drum in accordance with'this invention, comprises a-closed annular casing or shell having arranged therein a plu- 'rality'of circular partitions or'members', po-
sitioned between the top and bottom of the casing or shell, and mounted in spaced relation with respect to each other to provide an inner and an outer passageway and a lue spaced from the inner passageway The body portion of the casing or shell, is indicated at 10, which is tapered. denotes the top and 12 the bottom of the casing or'shell and which are formed integral with the body portion 10. Mounted between the top 11, and bottom 12, is a plurality of circular partitions or members 13, 14 and 15, and which are arranged in spaced relation and with thek member 15 spaced from thel body' portion 10. The member 13 provides a flue 16 which opens directly into the'top of the combustion chamber of the furnace. The means to provide the combustion lchamber is indicated vat .19'. The
member 15, is spaced from the member 14 to form an outer passageway. The member -but the members 13, 14 are tapered, 'so that the space between the members 13 and 14 will gradually increase in width upwardly. The member 15, which is positioned between the member 14 and body portion 10, is provided with an enlarged opening 21, of a height equal to the height of the member 15, and diametrically opposite the opening 21, the member 15 has its lower portion provided with an opening 34. The opening 21 establishes communication between the in ner passageway and the outer passageway, and the opening 34 when not `closed establishes communication between the inner passageway and the outer passageway.
The member 14, as well as the member 13 is provided with an opening, and formed integral with the edges of said openings are vertically disposed lateral plates 20, ywhich provide a passage 20 for establishing communication between the-flue 16, and the inner passageway. The passageway 20 is in alignment with and extends toward the opening 34. i
The means 19 which provide the co-mbusytion chamber of the furnace, has its upper vthe top of said means 19, whereby the-radia-` tor drumis supported within the casing 40, of the furnace bythe means 19. Formed in the body portion 10,- and in alignment with the passage 20', as well as the opening 34, is an opening 22, which is surrounded by a flange 23secured to a flange 24 on the inner endvof the smoke outlet flue 25, the latter is formed with a vertical 4flange surroundingran openin 26. Mounted on the flue 25"and surroun ing the flange at the opening 26, is a smoke a n discharge 'conducting flue 27.` rThe outer yend of the flue 25, is .provided with aclean- `out door 28.- The bottom o-f the Hue 25 extends upwardly at a slight inclination and the said flue 25 is provided with iianges 41, which are secured to the casing or shell 40.

In a furnace a hollow annular radiator element adapted to be mounted on the means providing the combustion chamber of the furnace and comprising a body portion having a top and bottom integral therewith and further including an inner, intermediate and outer spaced circular member interposed between and integral with said top and bottom thereby providing an outer passageway and a centrally disposed flue spaced from the inner passageway and formed with a closed top and having its bottom opening directly into the top of the combustion chamber of the furnace, said top and bottom of Said element formed with an opening to provide a hot air outlet passage between said inner and intermediate members, means for establishing communication between said flue and inner passageway, said'outer member having diametrically opposed openings for establishing communication between said inner and outer passageways, said openings arrangedv in alignment with said means, one of said openings being smaller than the other and arranged in proximity to said means, an outlet flue leading from said outer passageway and in alignment with and having its inner end in proximity to said smaller opening, and shiftable means for closing said smaller opening.

In a furnace a hollow annular radiator element adapted to be mounted on the means providing the combustion chamber of the furnace and comprising a body portion having a top and bottom integral therewith and further including an inner, intermediate and outer spaced circular member interposed between and integral with said top and bottom thereby providing an outer passageway and a centrally disposed flue spaced from the inner passageway and formed with a closed top and having its bottom opening directly into the top of ythe combustion chamber of the furnace, said top and bottom of said element formed with an opening 'to provide a hot air outlet passage between said inner and intermediate members, means for establishing communication between said flue and inner passageway, said outer member having diametrically opposed openings for establishing communication between said inner and outer passageways, said openings arranged in alignment with said means, one of said openings being 'smaller than the other and arranged in proximity to said means, an outlet flue leading from said outer passageway and in alignment with and having its inner end in proximity to said smaller opening, and shiftable means for closing said smaller openings, said body portion and said inner and outer circular members being tapered and said intermediate member beingl vertical in cross section.
