STONE AND LIKE WORKING JNIACT'IINE.
Application filed March as, 1921.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, KARL RUDoL-F HAnn- TING, a .citizen of the Republic of Germany, residing at Berlin, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stone and like Working Machines (for which I have filed applications in Germany, June 17th, 1919;'Sweden, Sept. 23rd, 1920; Norway, Sept. 28th, 1920; Denmark, Sept. 30th, 1920; Spain, Sept. 27th, 1920; Austria, Dec. 14th, 1920; Hungary, Dec. 15th 1920; Great Britain, December 31st, 1920; danada, January 7th, 1921), of which the following is a specification.
In the stone industry it is usual to employ machines for ramming materials into molds for making artificial stone work.
The present invention relates to a machine of this kind and consists in the provision of means as hereinafter set forth and claimed for operating the ram and accelerating its drop as well as for controlling the gearing so that the ram can be conveniently put into and out of operation.
In the accompanying drawings, the invention is illustrated by way of example,
Fig. 1 representing a side-view of the complete arrangement,
Fig. 2, a sectional view of the machine head showing the position of the elements when the ram is in gear, and
Fig. 3, a similar View showing the position of the elements during the grinding or polishing operation.
Fig. 4 is a view of the ram operating elements shown at right angles to Fig. 2.
The main shaft 1 of the machine is mounted in a vertical position between suitable wall or like brackets and may receive its mo tion from a belt working on pulleys 2 of which one is loose. A belt-shifter 3 is employed for putting the machine into and out of operation. A jointed arm 5 is arranged so as to be adjustable in a horizontal plane, either about the shaft 1 or about one which is co-axial therewith. The arm carries an idle pulley 6 which is exchangeable for varying the gearing and which derives its motion from a pulley 4 secured to the shaft 1. The pulley 6 transmits the motion to a vertical shaft 7 arranged in the head of the machine at the outer end of the carrier arm 5. The shaft 7 is adapted for axial displacement in its bearings, and its driving pulley is slidably feathered thereon to allow such adjustment. The operating lever 8, which is piv- Serial No. 456,137.
oted to the arm 5, is also pivoted to a collar on the shaft 7 for the control of the latter.
Figs. 2 and 4 show the ramming device which is of known construction and which consists of .a ram 12 and of a horizontal operating shaft 14. A sector. 13 on the shaft 14 rotates with the shaft and engages the ram so as to raise it, the ram being supported at the opposite side by rollers 24 and 25. As the sector turns away from. the ram, the latter drops onto the work. At the same time as the ram is released by the sector 13 it is engaged for a moment by a friction wheel 17 which moves in the opposite direction from sector 13 and which thus accelerates the drop of the ram. The wheel 17 is connected by means of a shaft 19 to arms 23 which are rocked about a pivot 26 by means of tappet wheels 18 the latter being connected to the shaft 14.
The shaft 14 carries a bevel gear 16 which meshes with a similar gear wheel 15 connected to the shaft 7 and receives its motion therefrom. To hold the wheel in mesh, the operating lever 8 is fastened to a link or hook 11, and the lever is only used for changing the position of the arm relative to the work. A collar 20, secured to the shaft 7 by means of a pin 21, bears against the machine frame and cooperates with the hook 11 for determining the position of the shaft.
When the ramming has to be frequently interrupted, a spring 9 may be connected to the lever 8 for holding the wheel normally in gear. When this spring is in use, the shaft 7 may be locked out of gear by means of a collar 20 which for this purpose is connected to the shaft by means of a pin 22.
The machine may either be mounted in a fixed position or adapted for travel, and means may in either case be provided for varying the altitude of the carrier arm to suit the work. In the case of a travelling machine, an electro-motor may be used for its operation. When the position of the machine is fixed, the work is preferably supported on low trucks which can be run under the machine, the weight being transferred from the truckcwheels during the work to suitable trestles or other rigid supports.
I claim:
1. A radial stone and like working machine, comprising a vertically reciprocating ram, a horizontal operating shaft, a sector mounted on said shaft so as to engage and raise the ram by friction and then let it drop, an acceleration shaft rotating in op posite direction from the operating shaft, pivoted arms holding said acceleration shaft, a friction Wheel connected to said latter shaft, tappets connected to the operating shaft so as to co-operate with said arms for rocking the same so as to apply the friction Wheel to the ram at the moment it is about to drop, a vertical axially adjustable driving shaft geared to the operating shaft, and a hand lever controlling said driving shaft.
2. A radial stone and like Working machine, comprising a vertically reciprocating ram, a horizontal operating shaft, a sector mounted on said shaft so as to engage and raise the ram by friction and then let it drop, an acceleration shaft rotating in opposite direction from the operating shaft, pivoted arms holding said acceleration shaft, a friction Wheel connected to said latter shaft, tappetsconnected to the operating shaft so as to cooperate With said arms for rocking the same so as to apply the friction Wheel to the ram at the moment it is about to drop, a vertical axially adjustable driving shaft geared to the operating shaft, a hand lever controlling said driving shaft, and a hook adapted for connection to said lever so as to hold the two shafts in gear.
