Description

g1 H. PARKER.
Devices for Forming Cores. No. 145,748, Patented Dec. 23,1873.

UNITED STATES "PATENT OEEIcE.
HENRY PARKER, OF GANANOQUE, CANADA.
IMPROVEMENT IN DEVICES FOR FORMING CORES.
Specification forming part oiLetters Patent No. 145,748, dated December 23, 1873; application filed November 18, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY PARKER, of the village of Gananoque, in the county of Leeds and Province of Ontario, Canada, have inwhen the mold-flasks, charged with the plastic material for forming the cores, are brought together by closing the hinged case, the semicores unite by adhesion, and thus form perfect cores.
Figure l is a top view of my improved mold open. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same on the line a as. Fig. 8 is a perspective view, showing the molds closed. Fig. 4 is a transverse vertical section of one of the mold-flasks removed from the mold-case, showing the same charged with united semi-cores.
A is a case, formed of two dishes, a a, hinged so as to close together. B B are mold'flasks, inserted in the dishes at a, and fitting snugly therein. These flasks are filled with plasterof-paris or other suitable material, which is impressed with semi-core molds D, to be filled with the plastic material of which to form the cores. 0 are openings in the back of the case A, to allow pressure by the thumb or fingers to be exerted on the inserted moldingflask B, for its removal from the case A after the semi-cores have been united.
By shutting the case A, so that the moldflasks are brought together, the unity of the semi-cores is effected by the adhesion of the plastic material, and thus forms perfect cores. The case A is then opened horizontally, and the united semi-cores will remain in the lower flask, which flask, charged with the cores, is then removed from the case A by pressure through the opening 0, and placed in a suitable oven to bake or otherwise harden the cores.
I claim as my invention- 1. A mold for casting cores having flasks B, impressed with corresponding semi-core molds D, inserted removably in a case, A, formed of dishes a a, hinged and closing together substantially as and for the purpose described.
2. Providing the dishes at a of the case A with openings 0 at the back, to facilitate re moval of the flasks B by pressure, as set forth.
H. PARKER.
