Be it known that I, LOUIS F. HAGEMANN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Niagara Falls, in the county of Niagara and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Autographic Registers, of which the following 15 a full, clear, and exact description, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to autographic registers, and more specifically to that type of machine in which a plurality of webs are fed over a support, suitable transfer material being disposed between the webs to enable a plurality of copies to be made.
An object of this invention is to enable the registration of the sheets forming thewebs to be more accurately maintained relative to each other and to the machine, whereby the records will appear on the webs, and the webs will be severed in predetermined positions.
Another object is to secure automatic cooperation between the feeding means and the cutting and aligning means so as to secure the cutting and aligning of the webs after -'a predetermined length of feed.
Other objects will bein part obvious and in part pointed out hereinafter. The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combinations of elements and arrangement of parts which will be exemplified in the constructionv hereinafter set forth, and the scope of the application of which will be indicated in the following claims.
The preferred embodiment of this invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein similar reference characters parts through the several views, in which I Figure l is a side elevation.

rods 4, 5 and 6, and at the other end of the machine a tie rod 7 which rods may serve to brace the side plates together as well as other purposes later to be described. Extending between the side plates 1, there are also provided suitable shafts as 7 for supporting the rolls of web.
At the top of the side plates 1 is a support 8, which may conveniently be made of a.separate piece resting in a cut-out portion 9 in the side plates, permitting ready removal of the support to 'give easy access to the interior of the frame. This support may conveniently have at one side a trough 10 for holding a roll or rolls of carbon tissue, and may have at the other side a suitable means for retaining the carbon' tissue.
Substantially central of the side plates 1 are vertical guides 15 in which is adapted to slide a reciprocating member 16, thus dividing the interior of the machine into two chambers, the one toward the rods 4, 5 and 6 being a roll-holding chamber and the one toward the rod 7 being a filing chamber.
The guides 15 preferably comprise guide blocks 17, each having a longitudinal 18, each block being attached to the si e wall tal slot 20 in the side plate, whereby adjustment of the position of the guide may be made by adjustin the position of the screw in the slot. Suita le lugs on the'side' plates may be provided at the top and bottom of each block to hold the block in place. -Preferably two such blocks 17 are attached to each side plate with the grooves 18 in alignment, so that the ma slide in said 11 the side crank or rock shaft 22 carrying on its outer end an operating gear segment 23, and having, interior of the casing, an ofiset rtion orarm 24 for the purpose of operating the reciprocating mem er. pressure roll 36' is yournaled parallel to the first mentioned roller 31, and carries at its end a suitable pinion 37 adapted normally to mesh with a slmilar pinion 38 on the roller 31, whereby the rollers are caused to rotate in opposite directions for the purpose of feeding the webs between them. This roller 36 also has, preferably, a roughened surface. In order, however, to enable the rollers to be separated to' relieve the web from the grip of the rollers and permit tree adjustment of the webs, the roller 2-36 is journaled in supports, as plates 39 which are parallel to the frame blocks 29 carrying the lower roller 3t and lie between the said blocks and the ends of the roller 31, whose shaft passes through a slotted orifice 10 in said plate, whereby the plate 39 may more vertically relative to the block 29 and roller 31 carrying with it the roller 36.
In order, normally. to retain the roller 36 in engagement with the roller 31, the ends of the shafts of the roller 36 extend beyond the plates 39 in which said roller is journaled, as shown at ll. through slots in the blocks 29, and threaded openings 42 are provided in said blocks above said extensions, in which are placed means for hearing down upon the ends of said shafts. This may conveniently consist of a prcsser block 4 3 pressed downwardly by a spring 44 which is retained in place by a screw 45 threaded into the opening. For the purpose of enabling the roller 36 to be lifted out of engagement with the roller 31, there is journalcd in the side plates 1 a shaft 46, carrying at one end an operating handle 47 and being provided. in position to engage the lower end of the plates 39 with cam surfaces, as shown at 48. whereby on rotation of the shaft 46 the plates 39 are alternatclv raised and lowered. carrying with them the roller 36.
Extending between the side plates 1 and attached thereto. as by screws 49. is a guide piece 50comprising two side pieces 51 baring extending therebetween twotie rods 52 and 53. one above the other. .ilso extending between the side pieces. parallel to and between the tie rods 52 and 53, is a guide plate,
and has one end of its as 54, for directing certain of the webs upwardly out of the machine and certain other of the webs downwardly into the filing chamber. In order to cause a se )aration between the upper and lower we )8, there is provided in the guide piece 50, and with its upper and lower suriat es substantially flushmechanism for severing the webs comprises a cutter orknii'e 58 attached to thereciproeating member 16, as by screws 59. and the upper tie rod 52 which is so shaped as to form a cutter bar. The knife 58 preferably has one side higher than the other to cause that-side to engage-the cutter bar before the other. 4
In order to enable the knife to cooperate with the cutting bar without interference by the separator bar, means are providwl for withdrawing the separator bar backward beyond the edge of the cutter bar "52 at such time as the knife approaches the cutter bar. This is accomplished by slidably mounting the separator bar 55 for longitudinal move-v ment in a slot in the guide piece 50. A separntor bar operating shaft 62 is journaled in the side pieces 51 of the guide piece 50, and carries at each end, as at (33, an operatin pin adapted to engage slots 64 in the cud of the separator bar, whereby on rotation the shaft 62 the operating pins 63 will cause movement of the separator bar 55 toward and away from the guide plate. A spring 65 on the shaft (32 tends to rotate the shaft 62 in a direction to hold the separator bar 55 in'engagement with the guide plate 54 and a cam arm 66 on the shaft 62, m position to be engaged by a finger 67 on the high side 60 of the knife 58 causes the rotation of the shaft 62 to, withdraw the separator bar 55 away from the guide plate 54 beyond the edge of the Cutter bar This permits the knife. as it rises. to engage the cutter bar to cut the webs, and at the same time retains the separator bar between the webs. whereby. when the knife is again lowered. it may return to 'a position in engagement with the guiding surface 54 to again cause the upper surface to be separated from the lower. This finger 67 also serves to guide the high side of the knife over the edge of the cutter bar. The records from the lower web or webs may be admitted loosely into the filing chamber for filing, but since it is desirable that they be retained in proper order, there is preferablv mounted on the reciprocating member 16 a filing member 68 which may conveniently consist of a head 69 ha ing a stud T0 fitting into an orifice 71 in a boss 72 on the reciprocating member 16, and a filing pin 73 projecting upwardly from said head, having attached to the upper end thereof a point 74, which may conveniently be screwed thereon. To permit the removal of the papers filed 'on the pin 73, without losing the order thereof, an eye 75 may be provided in the pm through which a suitable string may be passed before the papers are removed from the filing pin 73, whereby the pin will act as a needle to draw the string through the openings in the papers. A catch 76 engag ing a notch 77 in the boss 7 2 normally hol s the filing member in place. This catch may be operated by a spring78. The filing member 68 is conveniently steadied by making the head 69 of such shape as to fit flat against the reciprocating member 16 as the filing member is put in place. Machines of this character are customarily used with webs having printed thereon suitable sales forms, and it is desirable to insure that the sales forms in the different webs shall be in register with each. other" as the webs are fed in order that the records shall appear in the proper position on the sales forms on the loWer Webs. With paper webs, however, there is a tendency for the webs to get out of register with each other, owing, perhaps, to the liability of the paper of the webs to stretch or contract differently with different conditions of tension and at mosphere. For this reason, it is desirable to provide some means for adjusting the position of the webs relative to the machine and to each other. This may be accomplished by providing physical alterations in the webs, as, for example, a series of apertures or perforations, or of sets of perforations, bearing fixed relation to theforms printed on the webs, and to prov de means on theimachine, as, for example, pins for'engaging these alterations, whereby the position of the form may be adjusted by the positions of the alterations. I The form of adjustment in the embodiment illustrated is as follows: To the top of the reciprocating member 16 are attached members 99 having align ng pins, or fingers 100 projecting upwardly therefrom and adapted, when the reciprocating member 15 raised, to. project upwardly above the nor .mal level of the Webs, the roller. 31 being grooved, as at 101 and separator bar beingflnotched to afford a passage for the pms. ' v and the perforations in the webs are in such position relative to the printed form thereon, that when the webs are in pos tion to he severed by the knife 58, the pins will be in position to enter the perforations 1n the webs; member 16 are blocks 104 having arms or Attached to the reciprocating,
tappets 105 adapted to engage the lower ends of the plates 39 to raise the roller 36 from engagement with the roller 31 after the knife 58 and the cutter bar 52 have severed the webs, in order that the webs may be free from the feeding mechanism, so that their positions may be adjusted by the engagement of the pins 100 with the perforations in the webs.
With the construction as above described it will be evident that the feed will be operated by the gear32 while the cutting and aligning means will be operated by the gear segment 23. In order, therefore, to provide for the cutting and aligning of the webs after a predetermined length of feed, means are provided for operating the gear 32 a predetermined amount and then operating the gear segment 23. For this purpose there is mounted on the side of the machine a stud 125, on which is journaled or pivoted an oscillatory operating member, or arm, 126. At the inner end of the member 126, is a gear segment 127, fixed to move with the member 126, and to mesh and u nmesh with the gear segment 23, on the stroke of the arm 126'in one direction. On the outer end of the oscillatable arm is a rack or gear segment 128 movable into and out ofmcsh with the gear 129, which is journaled on a stud attached to the side of the frame. In the present embodiment the set, or pair of cooperative gear segments 23 and 127 are arranged to be in mesh when the other set, consisting of rack 128 and gear 129 are out of mesh. The gear 129 is operatively connected with the gear 32 for operating the feed mechanism. As illustrated this operative connection comprises a gear 130, integral with or attached tothe gear 129 and the gear 130 meshes with gear 32.. By this construction and by having the gear 130 of larger diameter than the gear 129. a predetermined length of feedcan be obtained with a smaller movement of the arm 126 than would otherwise be required.
In order to permit the return' of the operatipg arm 126 after the feeding stroke has been completed, some form of ratchet mechanism may be employed between the operating arm and the feeding roll. As illustrated. there is splined to .the shaft of the roller 31, so as to rotate with said roller. an operative connection, as a disc 131'and the operating gear 32 is loosely journaled upon the shaft of the roller 31 and is rotatable relative thereto. v
Intermeshing ratchet teeth may be provided upon the adjacent edges of the operating gear 32 and of the disc 131 and a spring 132 may be provided to urge the teeth on the disc 131 into engagement withthe teeth on the operating gear. These teeth will be so formed as to provide an operative connec- I length as to pass out of engagement with the gear 129 when the predetermined length of feed has been obtained.
In order to prevent over-running of the feed after the gear segment 128 has passed out of mesh with the gear 129 a stop mech-' anism may be employed. In the present embodiment mutually cooperative means on the rack 128 and gear 129 are provided to arrest rotation of the gear. As illustrated,.this comprises a strip 133 on the side of the gear segment 128, the edge of which provides a stop or stop surface, having a notch 134, the gear 129 being provided with a cooperative member 135 having two'stop teeth 136 and 137. The notch 13% andthe teeth. 136 and 137 are so formed that when these teeth both come into contact with the stop surface of strip 133, further rotation of the gear 129 is permissible only until the tooth 137 which is cireumferentially spaced from .the tooth 136 comes into contact with the Hat base, of the strip 133. The tooth 136 may then slide upover the flat base of the strip 133 and rotation of the gear 129 ispreventcd in either direction. The strip 133 is stationary relative to the rack 128, and it will be observed that the teeth 136 and 137 areiin effect fixed adapted to to rotate with gear 32 through gear 130.
The gear segment 127 is out of engagement with, the gear segment 23-during the major portion of the feeding operation. In order therefore, to insure that on rotation of the arm 126 the teeth of the gear segment 23 and 127 shall come properly into mesh, there is provided on the side of the gear segment 23 a special tooth 138, adapted to engage the advanced edge of the gear segment 127 and to cause a movement of the gear 127 to move the'gear-segment 23 just so much as to bring the first teeth into proper mesh. A suitable stationary stop. as 139, is provided on the frame for limiting the position to which the gear segment 127 and the arm 126 may return. By adjusting the position of the stop 139 the machine may be caused to feed slips of different lengths.
That portion of the machine which constitutes the filing chamber is provided with a suitable cover which may conveniently be composed of two parts, one of which, as 107 is pivoted to the side plates 2 at the lower edge of the free end thereof, and is adapted to fold up against the edges of the said side plates where it may be retained in place by a lock 108 which may engage the rod 7, and the other of which, as 109, may be hinged to the top of the part 107, as at 106, and is lie horizontally on top of theside pieces 2. The upper roller 36 w'illnow be raised by turning the shaft 46 by means of the operating handle 4-7 until the cams 48 engage and raise the plates 39. This disengages the rolls from each other and permits the ready insertion of the webs therebetween. The lower web, that is, the web passing over the guide rod 1, will then becarried beneath the separator bar 55 and beneath the guide plate 50 toproj'e'ct through the slot 57 into the tiling. chamber, and will be adjusted until the perforations in the web are over the pins 100. The upper. webs will then be carried over the support 8 and through the slot 56 above the separator bar 55 and guide surf ace 50. They also will be adjusted so thatthe-pertorations in the webs are over the pins 100. As the webs are laid in place over the support 8, carbon tissue from the rolls in the trough 10 may be laid between them to cause the record on the upper webs to be copied onto the lower. ones.
The operating handle 47 will now be turned to lower the rofler 36 to engage the webs and the covers 109 and 1.1.2 will be placed in position on the machine. Any record which it is desired to make may now be made upon the webs. The webs may now be fed through the machine to bring a new record slip into position by pressing the arm 126 backward. thus causing a feeding of the webs through the medium of the gears 128, 129 and 32 until the gear segment 128 passes out of mesh with the gear 129. Further feeding of the webs is then prevented by the teeth 136 and 137 cooperating with the strip 133. At this time the gear segment 127 coming in contact with the special tooth 138 and bringing the teeth of the gear segment 127 into mesh with the teeth of the gear segment 23 causes the raising of the reci rocating member 16, whereby the finger 67 engaging'the eamot arm 66 will withdraw the separator 55 out knife to cut the webs against the edgev of the cutter bar 52. At the same time the raising of the reciprocating member will cause the pin 100 to project through'the openings in the webs. When the severing of the webs has been completed, the arms 105 will engage the plates'39 to raise the roller 36 from engagement with the webs, thus automatically relaxing the pressure between the rolls 31 and 36, the relaxing being thus effected in timed relation to the actuation of the feeding means. The ,webs are now retained in place solely by the pins any web has been fed slightly beyond the desired point, the normal tension in the web will permit a slight retrograde movement thereof, because the diameter of the pins is less than the diameter of the perforations in the webs, and thus all the webs are brought into'such position that the furthermost edges of the perforations appear against the far side of the pins. thus having their positions adjusted relative to the pins, and hence having the positions of the forms printed on the webs adjusted relative to each other. It will be'noted that the above described construction is such that the web severing knife 58 is also automatically actuated in timed relation tothe actuation of the feed rolls.
- Upon returning the arm 126, the recipro-,
eating member 16 will be lowered permitting the re-engagement of the feeding roller, drawing the knife and pins from engagement with the webs. During this movement of the arm 126, no movement of the feed roller is taking place because of the ratchet mechanism. The arm 126 will now be brought back until the gear segment 127 comes against the stop 139 and the machine is in a position for a new record to be made.
The separator bar 55 insures that those webs which have originally passed through the slot 56 will all pass out of the machine over the guide pl te 54; and that those webs whichhave originally been. inserted in the slot 57 will all enter the filing chamber, and ivy-reason of the fact 'thatthe pin 73 is carried by the reciprocating member 16, this pin will have penetrated all of the sheets which enter the filing chamber which will be retained uponthe pin until such time as the filing chamber is opened. Thus one copy or more of each sales record is kept in the machine and the remaining copies passed out therefrom.
As many chai'iges could be made in the above construction land many apparently widely different embodimentsof this invention'could be made without departing from the scope thereof,.it is intended that all inatter contained the. above description or shown in thegaccompanying drawings shall be interpreted as 'illustrative and not in'a limiting sense.

Having described my invention What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1.. A device of the'character described comprising in combination a support for a web, means for feeding a web a predetermined amount relative to 'said support including feed ope-rating members adapted to pass out of engagement with each other after the web has been fed a predetermined amount, means for severing the web, reciprocatory aligning pins for adjusting the position of a portion of said web, and means for operating said severing and adjusting means including members adapted to pass into engagement with each other after a predetermined amount of feed.
2. A device of the character described comprising in combination a support for a web, roller means for feeding the web, relat-iveto the support, means for operating the roller including a gear and a gear segment adapted to pass out of engagementwith the gear after a predetermined amount of feed, a stop mechanism, positively stopping the rotation of said gear after the gear and the gear segment have passed out of engagement, means for severing the Web, means for adjusting the position of aportion of the web, and means for operating the severing and adjusting means, after a predetermined amount of feed, including a member operatively connected with the gear segment, and a member operatively connected with the severing-and adjusting means, said members being adapted to come into engagement with each other after the predetermined amount of feed and to operate the severing and adjusting means. i
3. A device of the character described comprising in combination a support for a Web, means including .a roller normally urged toward the web and adapted to engage the web for feeding the same, pins adapted to enter perforations of the web for comprising'in' combination a support for a the members of one web, means including a roller normally urged toward the web and adapted to engage the web for feeding the same, pins adapted to enter perforations of the web for adjusting the position of a portion of the web relative to the support, means for releasing the roller from engagement with the Web to permit said adjustment and 0 erating means for the pins and feed, inclu ing two sets of members, the members of one set adapted to pass out of engagement with each other and those of the other into engagement with each other at predetermined points in the feeding operation, one set operating the roller and one set operating the pins and roller releasing mechanism, and means for positively stopping one member of the roller operating set after the feed operating members have passed out of engagement.
5. A device of the character described,
comprising in combination a support for a web, means including a roller normally urged towards the web and adapted to engage the web for feeding the same, pins adapted to enter perforations in the web for adjusting the position of a portion of the web'relative to the support, means for releasing the roller from engagement with the web to permit said adjustment and operating means for the pins and feed-including two sets of members, each set comprising a gear segment, the members of one set adapted to pass out of engagement with each other and those of the other set into engagement at predetermined points in the feeding operation, the one set operating the roller and the other set operating the pin and roller releasing mechanism.
6 A device of the character described, comprising in combination a support for a web, means including a roller normally urged towards the web and adapted to engage the web for feeding the same, pins adapted to enter perforations in the web for adusting the position of a portion of ythe we relative to the support, means for releasing the roller from engagement with the web to permit said adjustment and operating means forthe pins and feed including two sets of members, each set comprising a gear segment, the members of one set adapted to pass out of engagement with each other andthose of the other set into engagement with each other at predetermined points in the feeding operation, the one set operating the roller and the other set operating the pin and roller releasing mechanism, and means for positively stopping one member of the roller operating set after the feed members have passed out of e gement.
i device of the character described, comprising in combination a support for a web, means including a roller normally urged towards the web and adapted to engage the web for feeding the same. pins adapted to enter perforations in the web for adjusting the position of a portion of the web relative to thesupport, means for releasing the roller from engagen'ient with the web to permit said adjustment and operating means for the pins and feed including two sets of members, each set comprising a gear segment, the members of one set adapted to pass out of engagement with each other and those of the other set into engagement with each other at predetermined points in the feeding operation, the one set operating the roller. and the other set operating the pin and roller releasing mechanism, and means for positively stopping one member of the roller operating set after the feed members have passed out of engagement and a handle to which one member of each set is connected.

A device of the character described coi'nprising in combination a support for a web, means including a roller normallyurging toward the web and adapted to engage the web for feeding the same, pins adapted to engageperforations in the web for adjusting the position of a portion of the web relative to the support, means for releasing the roller from engagementwith the web to permit said adjustment, a knife for severing the web and operating means for the knife, pins and feed, including means for operating the pins and knife automatically at a predetermined point in the feeding stroke.

A device of the character described comprising in combination a support-for a web, means including a roller normally urging toward the web and adapted to engage the web for feeding the same, pins adapted to engage perforations in the web for adjusting the position of a portion of the web relative to the support, means for releasing the rollerwith engagement from the web to permit said adjustment, a knife for severing the web and operating means for the knife, pins and feed, including means for operating the pins and knife automati cally at a predetermined point in the feeding stroke, said operating means comprising two sets of members, the members of one set adapted to pass out of engagement with each other and those of the other set into engagement with each other at a predetermined point in the feeding operation, the one set operating the roller and the other the pins, the knife and the roller releasing mechanism.

A device of the character described comprising in con'ibination a support for. a web, means including a roller normally urging toward the web and adapted to engage the web for feeding the same, pins adapted to engage perforations in the web tooth to arrest rotation of said for adjusting the position of the portion of the web relative to the support, means for releasing the roller from engagement with the web to permit said adjustment, aknife for severing the web and operating means for the pins, knife and feed including two sets of members, each set comprising a gear segment, the members of one set adapted to pass out of engagement with each other and those of'the other set into engagement with each other at a predetermined point in the feeding operation, the one set operating the roller and the other set operating the knife, pins and the roller releasingmechanism.

In an apparatus of the character described, in combination, a feed roller, -an oscillatory operating 'member, devices whereby movement of said member rotates said roller including a gear operatively connected to said roller, a rack movable into and out of mesh with said gear, a stoptooth on said gear, and a stop stationary relative to said rack adapted to cooperate with said ear.

In an apparatus of the dharacter described, in combination, a feed roller, an oscillatory operating member, devices whereby movement of. said member rotates said. roller including a nected to said roller, 'a rack movable into and out -of mesh with said gear,'a pair, of circumferentially spaced-stop teeth on the side of said gear, and a stop surface stationary relative to said rack adapted to contact with said teeth and arrest rotation of said ear. g 14. whereby movement of said member rotates said roller including a gear operatively connected to said roller, a rack 'movable into and out of mesh .with said gear, said gear and rack having mutually cooperative means to arrest rotation of said gear uponunmeshing with saidrack, means permitting movement of said rack in one direction without rotating said gear, and a stationary adjustable stop-in the path of said operatingmemberwhereby the extent of movement inf the last mentioned direction may be limited and varied.

In an apparatus of the character-described, in combination, a feed roller. an operating member, devices whereby movement of said member rotates said roller including a gear operatively connected to said roller. a rack movable into and out of mesh with said gear, a stop tooth on. said gear. a stop stationary relative to said rack adapted to cooperate with said tooth to arrest rotation of said gear, and a stationary adjustable stop adapted to cooperate with said operating member to limit its-movement in one direction.
16. In an apparatus of the character described, in coi'nbination. a feed roller, a refinger adapted to enter apertures in the web, an'oscillatory operat ing member, anddevices whereby operation of said operating member rotates said roller and rcciprocates said, finger.

In an apparatus of the character described, in combination, a feed roller, a reciprocatory aligning finger adapted to enter apertures in the web, an oscillatory operating member, and devices wherebyoperation of said operating member rotates said roller and reciprocates said finger, including a gear operatively connected to said roller, 8.

In an apparatus of the character described, in combination, a feed roller,-a reciprocatory aligning finger adapted to enter apertures in the web, an oscillatory voperating member, and devices whereby operation of said operating member and reciprocates said finger and relieves said web from the feed grip of said roller.

In an apparatus of the character described, in combination, a feed roller, a reciprocatory aligning finger adapted to enter apertures in the web, an oscillatory op-- erating member, devices whereby operation of said operating member rotates said roller and reciprocates said finger, including a gear operatively connected to said roller, a pair of cooperative gear segments one of which is cooperatively connected to said finger, and a rack adapted to move into and out of mesh with said gear on the stroke of the oscillatory member in one direction, and means whereby the feed stroke of said operating member relieves said web from the grip of'said roller.

30. In an apparatus of the character described, in combination, a feed roller, a reciprocatory aligning finger, a web severing knife, an oscillatory operating member. and operative connections whereby said roller, finger and knife are actuated upon operation of said operating member.

In a friction roll manifolder embodying perforated form strips, strip feeding means including a drive roll and a cooperative pressure roll, means for relaxing the pressure between said rolls after feeding said strips a predetermined distance, formadjusting means for engaging form perforations at the time of said pressure relaxation, and connections whereby said pressure relaxing means is automatically actuated in timed relation with respect to actuation of said feeding means.

In a friction roll manifolder embodying perforated form strips, strip feeding means including a drive roll and cooperative pressure roll, means for relaxing the pressure between said rolls after feeding said strips a predetermined distance, form adjusting means for engaging form perforations at the time of said pressure relaxation, and connections whereby said pressure relaxing means and said form adjusting means are automatically actuated in timed relation with respect to actuation of said feeding means.
39. In a friction roll manifolder embodying perforated form strips, strip feeding mean including a drive roll and a cooperatire pressure roll, means for relaxing the pressure between said rolls after feeding said strips a predetermined distance, form adjusting means for engaging fin-in perfu rations at the time of said pressure relaxation, a Web serering knife, and rnnneetiens whereby said. pressure relaxing means and said knife are automatically actuated in timed relation with respect to actuation of said feeding means.
40. In a friction roll inanifalder embodying perforated form strips. strip feeding means including a drive roll and a cooperative pressure roll, means for relaxing the pressure between said rolls afcer feeding said strips a predetermined distance, form adjusting means for engaging form perforations at the time of said pressure relaxation. a web severing knife and eonneetiens whereby said pressure relaxing means, said knife and said form adjusting means are automatically actuated in timed relation with respect to actuation of said feeding means.
