I attain my object by the device and combination of parts illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which;
Fig. 1 shows a diagrammatic plan view of a garage provided with a door having two leaves or double doors which are opened thru the medium of my device;
Fig. 2 shows a fragmentary sectional detailof the operating parts of my invention; Fig. 3 is a sectional elevation of the key operated valve mechanism located outside of the building, and controlling the admission of water from the main, or head, to the hydraulic cylinder of my device; as the valve is shown in this view it is locked in such position as to drain the water from the hydraulic cylinder into the sewer;
Fig. 4 shows a vertical section similar to Fig. 3, but looking at the opposite side of the parts shown in the latter figure; in this view the valve has been released by withgo drawing the bolt of the valve lock by means of the key, thus placing the valve in its open position with the water flowing from the main or head into the hydraulic cylinder and thus operatingmy device; and
Fig. 5 is a detail of the latching mechanism for locking the door leaves in closed position; the latching mechanism being connected with my device so that it will be released in advance of the action of the hydraulic means for opening the door.
The reference character a represents a hydraulic cylinder connected by a pipe z, i, with the Water main or head. The pipe 71 .is led to the outside of the garage, and the flow of Water thru the pipe from the head or mainis controlled by athree -way valve 7' which in one position permits the water to flow thru the pipe 5, 2", in the direction indicated by the arrows z, z to the hydraulic cylinder and in its other position the valve will close the pip 71, .and drain the water from the hydraulic cylinder thru pipe 2' into the sewer thru a pipe 8.
The valve j is operated by spring 0011- trolled means which when unrestrained place the valve in its position to connect the hydraulic cylinder with the main. These means are detailed in Figs. 3 and 4. They consist of a valve stem is forked at its lower end, and provided with a pin 9 bearing in the slot of the valve arm '1- fastened on the rojecting end of the valve spindle as at y".

The valve is located outside of the garage at some convenient place as diagrammatically shown in Fig. 1, and is enclosed by a case Z which may be placed under ground as shown in. Fig. 4, and on which is mounted the cylinder l, the valve stem and its locking mechanism being above ground.
v The hydraulic cylinder 0 is fastened to a block 3 which is bolted to any suitable part of the building as at 4. The piston b which reciprocates in the hydraulic cylinder a has a stem 0 the free or outer end of which is connected to a cross-head d which slides on fixed guide rods 8. To the opposite ends of the cross-head d are pivotally connected rods f and f (see Fig. l) which are connected to the door leaves 9 and g by ins 8. The forward end of the rod 0 is need to receive a collar 0 and a coil spring 2 is placed on the piston rod 0 between the collar 0' and the cross-head d; the coil spring functioning to take up any sudden jars that occur in the opening and closing of the door. At the farther end a of the piston rod is mounted an upwardly projecting arm 5 clamped in place by the nuts 6 and 7; the nut 6 dra ulic cylirider'from' the main thus moving the piston forward'andin so doing swinging I the two leaves of the door open, the piston rod will finally strike a rubber bumper 14. The door locking device needs only to' be p vided for one leaf of the door since it will be impossibleto open one door without the other.
The door is locked by a latch to supported by a bracket 16 from the door frame, (see Fig. engaging with a catch '0 provided on the door leaf 9'. The'catch o is automatic'ally released by a device fixed to the door frame member and the release of the latch w is effected by the forward movement of the cross head d, said latch releasing mechanism' consisting of a-bracket 9 fixed to the rafter 4 and having forked free end 9 in which is ivoted an arm 10 connected by a rod :12 wit the latch to which is constructed in the form of the bell-crank as shown in Fig. 5 and the connection being adjustable as shown at m in the latter figure. The forked end 9 of the bracket 9 also has a pawl 11 made with a shoulder 12 which bears against the arm 10 as shown in Fig. 2. When the cross-head d makes its return movement the arm 5 will strike the pawl 11 and the passing of the arm by this pawl will cause the latter to rotate on its pivot.

When my device is operated to open the door the arm 5 carried by the piston rodwill strike the pawl 11 correspondingly rotating the latterand causing the pawl 11 to rock the arm 10 and in so doing lifting the latch w from its engagement with the catch o, hence releasing the door' and permitting my device to complete its operation of opening the latter.
All that is required in order to throw my device into action for opening the door is and the nut 7 holds the arm 5" to insert the key in the lock n and retract the spring bolt 0 from the valve rod is.
When the doo is to be .closed the valve 7' is so positioned as to drain the pipe end i into the sewer by merely depressing the. valve stem is and causing it to become engaged with the spring'bolt of the lock n.
If it is desired to close the doors while in the garage the stop and waste cock 13 may be the hydraulicxcylinder the weight If connect'- ed by acable u with a cross-head d will operate the latter and the devices therewith connected in such wise as to close the doors, or permit the closing of the latter.
I claim:
1. In a hydraulic door opening device, a hydraulic cylinder and piston therein connected with the door, a. connection between the cylinder and a head of water, a valve in said connection controlling the admission, and drainage of the water, into and from, the cylinder, automatic means for positioning the valve to permit the water to flow into the cylinder, means for holding the valve inclosed position, a latch for locking the door, and means operatively connected with the piston for releasing the latch when the water pressure-moves the piston.
2. In a hydraulic door opening device. a hydraulic cylinder and piston therein connected with the door, a connection between the cylinder and a head ofwater, a valve in said connection controlling the admission. and drainage of the water into, and from,
the cylinder, automatic means for positioning the valve to permit the water to flow into the cylinder, means for holding the valve in closed position, means for auto- .matically retracting the piston when the water is drained from the cylinder, a latch for locking the door, and means operatively connected with the piston for releasing the latch when the water pressure moves the piston.
