IMPROVEMENT IN FOUNTAIN-BRUSHES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 145,301, dated December 9,1873; application led September 5, 1873.
To all whom it lmay concern:
Be it known that I, RUFUS LAPHAM, of the city, county, and State ofN ew York, have made certain Improvements in FountainBrushes for marking, painting, staining, oiling and other purposes, of which the following is an exact description thereof, reference being had is a stop-cock made to connect with the foun-A tain F by means of the screw a.' B is a tube4 holding the brush d, and having a screw at b to connect with the stop-cock C. D is an outer tube, which is made to cover the tube B by means of the screw at t, lleaving a space between the tubes B and D to allow any liquid to pass onto and around the brush d. are holes through the tube B to allow the ink or liquid to pass into the space between B and D to the brush.'
To operate this fountain-brush, first ll the fountain F at the opening at the small end, then connect the stop-cock C, and with it the brush B, Dbeing first attached 5 then open the cock O gradually till the ink or liquid is seen to iow onto the brush d; then the whole is ready for work.- The flow is easily regulated by the cock C.

cap, as seen in a patent issued to Daniel J. Kellogg, January 17, 1871; nor any combination of lamp-Wick as a conductor, with the brush, spring, caps, handle, reservoir, &c., as seen in said Kelloggs patent; but
That I do claim and desire to secure by Let ters Patent, is-
1. The combination of the socket B, provided with apertures i t' t', with the tube D and brush d, as and for the purpose set forth,
2. The combination of the brush d, provided with the perforated socket B and pipe D, and stop-cock C, as and for the purpose set forth.
