Description

Patented jipr. l?, lQZl.
entre stares VERNEY A. VI'ILSGN, OF ATALLA, ALABAMA COMPRESSED-IR ICE VACHINE.
Application filed November 23, 1920.
y To all w 710m t 'may concern vention consists in a construction Be it known that l, VnnNnY A. VVrLsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at tallar` in the county of Etorvah and State of iftlabama7 have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Compressed-fdr lee Machine; and l do hereby declare the following to be a full. clear`r and exact de scription of the invention, such as will. enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple `and inexpensive apparatus for use in producing' ice for commercial and like purposes and which is adapted merely byl modilication as to proportions for domestic use; and with this objectv in view the inand compreferred bination of parts of which a drawing;
embodiment is shown in the wherein.-
Figure 1 is a perspective view paratus embodying the invention.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional vievv of the same.
Figure 8 is a transverse section on the plane indicated by the line 3-3 of Fig ure 2.- y
The device consists essentially of an ice compartment or box 10 of any` preferred .or convenient proportions7 completely'housed within a casing; 11 of which the walls are spaced from those of the ice compartment to form a fluid compartment 1 2 accessible through an inlet 13, located in the construction illustrated at one end the casing` for the refrigerati-ng fluid suoli as compressed air which may be supplied from any suitable or convenient source (not shown) through the supply pipe 1st. rl`he ice. compartment is provided with a movable, preferably hinged, lid 15 whichis .normally closed to prevent the access of air but which may be displaced to permit of the introduction of water and the` removal of the ice7 thV walls epd botT tom of the compartment being; provided with transverse grooves 16 for the reception of lifting;- rods 17 to facilitate the removal of the vcalre of ice from the compartment, rllhe ll` 'ng rods are of U-shape and snugly of an apfit and lill the grooves 15 so as to avoid the formation of a recess or projection in the ice and the freezingof the rods in the ice. Said reds at their upper or free ends are engageable by any suitable means to facilitate removal thereof and of the ice Serial No. 426,028.
therewith accordingly. At one end of the casing at the top there is provided an outlet door 18 which may be hinged as indicated at 19, to permit of the escape of the fluid contents of the compartment designed for the refrigerant? but `when inthe preferred practice it is desired to graduate the exhaust of the refrigeratingl `fluid it may be permitted to escape through a reduced outlet 19 provided with a valve 20. Late-hes 2l on door 18 engage keepers 22 on the cover of the casing. The fastening of door 18 thus loclrs lid 15 in place and the same securing means fastens both the door and lid in closed position.
ln order to reinforce the construction to prevent the opening of the joints, the wall of the casing is preferably connected with the walls of the ice compartment by means of tie rods 21 consisting of bolts or the equivalent thereof.
Having` thus described the invention, what l claim is 1. A receptacle consistino of a casing,4 a
box therein, a cover for the casing, a movable lid member on said cover for the box, a movable door member to permit access to the space intermediate the casing and the box, fastening means 'to secure one of said members in closed position7 and said members having portions contactingwith each other whereby said single fasteningr means will secure both of said members in closed position. l
2. A receptacle consisting` of -a rasiug, a box therein spaced therefrom at the sides, end and bottonn bolts passinglp through the easing and threaded into said boa7 said bolts being,- disposed at diiferent angles to support the boX and casing out of contact to provide a space therebetween, a cover for the casing, a movable lid member for 'the box on said cover, a movable door member to permit access tosaidspace, said door member at one side thereof being engageable with the free end of the lid member, and a fasteningmeans te secure said door member in closed position whereby the lid member is also secured in closed position through said engagement with the door member.
ln testimony whereof l affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
vnmignr A. WiLso-N. Witnesses C. B. BORMAN, W. A. MOORE.
