STEEL ERASER.

To all whomy t may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN BERG, a citizen of the United `States, residing at Pasadena, county of' Los Angeles, State of California,

have invented new and useful Improvements in Steel Erasers, of which the following is 'a specication.

It is the object of' this invention to provide a steel eraser which may be detachably mounted upon a pen holder or the like, in order that the eraser will be convenient for use at all times.

The eraser consists essentially of a blade having its shank received and Xed within a holder, Vwhich latter may be readily slipped upon the end of a marking implement, such as a pen holder.

More specifically, it is the object oit the invention to provide an extremely simple and inexpensive, but practical structure, in which the blade-'is firmly held, and in which the holder is a split hollow member arranged to form a resilient clamping engagement upon pen holders of various sizes.

The invention will be readily understood from the following description of the accompanying drawings in which:

The eraser is removably mounted upon the end of a pen holder 1, or other implement; and comprises a tubular member 2, f preferably of metal, and formed of a blank which is bent into tubular shape.

The main portion of the tube preferably tapers throughout its length, in order to adapt the holder to mountings of various sizes, and the end of the tube may be split as shown at 3, in order that the holder may form a resilient clamping engagement upon its mounting.

blade l is supported with its shank 5 received within the opposite end of. the tubular holder, so that the blade projects beyond the holder into position for use. The shank is preferably fiat, and the sides of' the tubular holder are flattened against the sides of the shank so as to hold the blade in position.

A positive connection is preferably provided between the holder and the shank of the blade, in order to positively and rigidly fix the blade in position.

This positive connection may be of various forms, and as illustrated in Fig. 3 may comprise suitable rivets 6, received through the holder and through apertures 7 provided in the shank of the blade.

As a modification of this construction, the flattened sides of the holder may be indented as shown at 6a in Fig. 4, so that said indents will engage recesses 7a provided in the shank of the blade, for holding the blade in position.

A still further modification of the retaining means for the blade is illustrated in Figs. 5-7. Here the shank 5b of the blade is provided with edge notches 7b, and the blank from which the tubular holder is formed, is provided with edge slits l() forming lips 6b adapted to be bent into notches 7b when the blank is formed into the tubular member.

By any of the various retaining means which may be employed, it will be noted that a positive engagement is provided for the shank of the blade, in order that the latter will be firmly held.

The device as thus described, may be easily manufactured, and the linished article forms a convenient device to be employed in connection with a marking implement, for making erasures.

While I have illustrated and described, various modifications of the invention, it will be readily understood, thatl the same is possible of still further exemplifcations, and that changes in the combination and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.

What is claimed is:

l. An eraser comprising an erasing blade, and a blank bent to form a hollow holder at one end, the opposite end of said blank being bent around and flattened against the shank of said blade.

2. An eraser comprising anerasing blade.

3. An eraser comprising an erasing blade, having a notched shank, and a blank adapted to form a holder, said blank having means for engaging the notches of said shank, with said blank bent around said shank and over said engaging means.

4c. An eraser comprising an `erasing blade having a notched shank, and a; blank adapted to form a holder, said blank having tongues at one side thereof adapted to be received in the notches of said shank, With said blank bent around said shank and over said tongues and notches. y
