Description

W. LACKI CRADLE Filed May 12 1922 ATTORNEY Patented Apr. 3, 1923.
UNITED STATES WOJCIECH LACKI, F CHICAGO, ILLINCIS.
CRADLE.
Application illed Hay 12, 1922. Serial No. 560,421.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WoJoIEoH LACKI, a citizen of Poland, residing at 'Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cradles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in cradles, particularly motor operated cradles, and it is the principal object of the invention to provide a cradle which at all times will execute a uniform or rythmic swinging motion as long as the motor operates.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a cradle of this character which is of an extremely simple and therefore inexpensive, yet durable construction requiring no special attendance.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a cradle allowing a regulation of the speed and limits of the swinging motion.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the further objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the drawing Figure 1 is an end view of a cradle constructed according to the present invention.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary side View thereof.
Figure 3 is a. detail side and end view of and operating link.
Figure 4 is a detail side and edge view of a drive wheel.
Figure 5 is a front and side elevation of an operatin rod.
The crade of any well known construction and material is suspended from and between a frame 11 on casters 12 carrying at one end on a bracket 13 between the side posts of the frame near their foot ends, a motor 14 adapted to be operated by means of electricity supplied from a suitable source by means of the wires 15 in the well known manner.
The shaft 16 of this motor carries la pulley 17 over which a belt 18 is guided which is also guided over a drive wheel 19 rotatably secured as at 20 to a cross bar 21 of the frame 11. To one of the curved spokes 22 of wheel 19 is Secured one end of an operating link 23 provided with a plurality of openings 24 for the passage of a pin 25 which is also passed through an operating rod and held in place in rear thereof b a thumb screw 26. The rod 27 is movab y attached to a lower `transverse bar 28 of the frame 10 by means of a pin 29 provided with a thumb screw 30 atits inner end, which pin can be placed in any of the holes 31 of bar 28 for re lating purposes.
ear its lower end the rod 27 has a longitudinal slot 32 through which a pin 33 attached to the end of the cradle 10 is extended. rIlhe upper end of the rod 27 is bent as at 34 upon itself and a set screw 35, carrying a thumb screw 36 is passed through the end of rod 27 and the bent end thereof for allowing the attachment of the inner ends of springs 37 and 38, the outer ends of which are secured to the posts of the frame 11.
The device operates as follows:
The desired speed of the swinging motion and the limit of the same having been decided on, the pins 25 and 29 are placed into the respective openings 31 and 24 and the motor is started. The rotation of wheel 19 by the intermediary of link 23 will impart to the operating rod 27 a reciprocatory motion which by means of pin 33 is transferred as a swinging motion to the cradle 10. The tension of the springs 37 and 38 can be selected to suit the purpose.
It will be clear that changes may be made in the general arrangement and specific construction of the minor details of my invention without departing from the scope and spirit thereof.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is- 1. A rocking cradle of the class described, comprising a cradle body, a frame from which said cradle body is suspended, a pro jecting in on one end of said cradle body, a slotte operating rod adjustably connected with its lower end to a cross bar of said frame, said pin extended through the slot in said rod, a drive wheel, means for rotating said wheel from a motor, a link secured to one of the spokes of said wheel and to said rod intermediate its ends, and springs secured to the upper end of said rod and to the side posts of said frame.
2. A rocking cradle of the class described. comprising a frame, a. cradle body suspended in said frame, a projecting pin at one end of said cradle, 'a slotted operating rod adjustubl y secured with its lower end to a cross rod on said frame, said pin extended through the slot in Suid rod, a drive wheel, a link se- 5 cured ut one end to one of the spokes of said drive wheel, and a pin adjustably connecting tlie'other end of said link with said rod, :L motor on :L bracket of said fra-me for driving said wheel, springs connecting the upper end of said rod to two end posts of 10 said frame, und means for securing said springs to said rod.
In testimony whereof I have aflxed my signature.
WUJCIECH LACKI.
