UNITED STATES- PATENT OFFICE ELI BUCK AND EDGAR W. KIRK, OF CINOINNATI, IOWA.
IMPROVEMENT IN CHERRY-STONERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0. 144,887, dated November 25, 1873; application fi1ed October 11, 1873.
T0 all whom zt mag; concern:
. Be i1: known that we, ELI BUCK and EDGAR W. KIRK, 0f (Jincinnati, in the county cf Appzmoose and State 0t I0wa, hzwe invented. a new und usefu1 Improvement in Oherry- St0ner, cf which the following is a specificati0n:
Figre 1 is a vertical longitudinal section 0f the improved machine taken thr0ugh the line x x, Fig. 2 and Fig. 2 is a front view 0f the same, partly in section, through the 1ine y y, Fig. l.
The invention has for is object t0 furnish an improved machine f0r stoning cheriies, simple in construction, convenicnt in use, and efiective in operation, removing the stones fr0m ehe cherries effectively und rapidly, und. at the same time separating the stones entirely fr0m the fruit. The invention consists 0f an improved cherry-stoner, formed cf the pan, c1amp, p1mches,stripping-plate, sliding cross-bar, posts, connecting-rods, cranks, and shafts, slide und sliding peu, constructed and operating in connection Wi1:h each other, as hereinafter fu11y described.
A is a pan 01 trough, having a 10W flange around its sides and rear end, und hzwing a clamp, B, provided Wit-h a set-screw, C, attached t0 its under side toward its forward end f01 securing it t0 the edge 0f a tab1e 01 bench, said clamp being attached in such a way es 1:0 support thc pan A in a slightly-inclined position. In the bottom cf the pan A are formed fourmore 01' lessgrooves, a according to the number' of punches t0 be employed, and which 1ead down 130 an equal numher cf tapering holes, a, formed through the seid bottom, a litt1e below the clamp B O, the seid holes being cf such a size as 130 stop the cherries, but which Will not a1low the cherries t0 15ass through. D is a sei: cf fourmore 01 lesspunches, which are attached to a crossbar, E, which s1ides up a11d down in ways up0n the posts F, the lower ends of which are attachcd t0 the sides 0f the pzm A in line with ehe h01es a and the upper ends cf which eure connected and he1d in proper position by a cross-bar, G. T0 the 10wer part cf the inner sides cf the posts F are attached the ends cf a p1ate, H, having holes formed thrcugh it 0f such a, size as 130 allow The punches D t0 pass through freely. T0 the middle art cf the bar E is pivoted the lower end 0f a short connecting-rod, I, the other end 0f which is pivoted t0 a crauk, J, formcd up0n the shaft K, which revolves in bearings in the upper part cf the posts F, and t0 0ue end 0f which is attached tl1e crank L, by which th'e machine is operated. T0 t-11e other end 0f the shaft K is attached a short crank, M, t0 Which is pivoted. the upper end cf the connecting-rod N, the 0ther end. 0f Which is pivcted to a longer crank, O, attached t0 the end 0f the shaft P, the cranks M and O being cf such a relative length that tl1e revolution cf the shaft K Will only rock the shaft P. The shaft P W0rks in bearings attached t0 the 1ower side cf the bottomcf panA, and. t0 its other end, und abouo in the central linc cf seid pan is attached. a crank, Q, 1:0 the end cf which is pivoted the end. cf a sh0rt connecting-rod, R, the otheir end cf which is pivoted 130 a slide, S, sliding upon the lower side 0f the bott0m of the 10wer part 0f the pan A, and which is connected through a s10t, a in seid bottom With a peu 01 spout, T, sliding up0n theupper side 0f the 10wer part cf the seid bottom.
With this construction, aus the punches D descend upon the cherries in the holes a the stones are punched out 0f the fruit, and through the holes a und feil int0 a dish p1accd beneath the seid holes. As the punches ascend they carry Ehe fruit With them up t0 the p1ate H, by which it is pushed 01' stripped fr0m the seid punches. As the punches asceud the pan T moves back, so es t0 pass bencath the punches and receive the fruit as it falls from the plate H. The fruit s1ides d0wn the peu T into a dish 'placed beneath the 10wer end cf seid pan.
The descent cf the cherries in the peu A is regulated wioh one hzmd, while thc crank L is turned Wifll the 0ther.
Having thus described 0ur invent-icn, we c1zu'm as new, anddesire t0 secure by Letters Patent- 1. The combination 0f the pan A, provided with discharge:opcnings a with. the reciprocating punches D, stripping-plate H, and punches rise, f0r receiving the stoned. chersliding discharge-apron T, the various parts r1es, substantially as herein set f0rth and being construeted 110 operate in substantially shown.
the 1nanner herein shown und deseribed. ELI BUOK.
2. The reciproeating punches D, operated EDGAR W. KIRK. through the medium 0f devices which serve to \Vitnessesz actuate the sliding diseharge-apron T, caus- L. R. HOLBROOK,
ing the latter t0 move -backward when the A. A. ATI-IERTON.
