To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, 'ED-MUND J. Lower, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of South Bend, in the county of Saint Jo seph and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plowshares; and I do "hereby declare the following to be a full,-clear, and exact'description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it a-p-' pertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to improvements in plow shares,the object of the invention being to so construct a plow share as to enhance the strength, wearing qualities and longevity of the same.

A further object is to provide a .plow share with a chilled cutting edge portion, which shall be uniform and in which the chilled portion. shall extend not only an ap preciable distance upwardly from the cutting edgeper se, but which shall also extend an appreciable distance upwardly at both sides of the body metal of the share, this distance being governed by the'varying of the analysis of the alloy giving the chill.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction as hereinafter set forth and pointed out in the claims.

1 represents the body portion of the share which may consist of a suitable chilling iron alloy. The cutting edge portion of the share is chilled uniformly as indicated at, 2.

' This chilled portion of the share extends an appreciable distance upwardly from the cutting edge, per se, and it also extends appreviable distances upwardly at respective sides of the body iron of the share as shown at 3, so that the body metal of the share will extend downwardly in V-shape (in cross section) into the chilled portion.
