vwarme-CLOSET- VALVE.
Application filed November 22, 1921.
To all whom. t may concern.'
Be it known that I, JAMES A. lVA'rT, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York',have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Water-- Closet Valves, of which the following is a specification.
y invention relates to float valve for vcontrolling the discharge of water from ciswill be especially well adapted for assembllng.
Another very important object of the invention is to construct a device of this nature whereby the yieldable portion of the float valve may bemoulded instead of formed by j a blowing process as isthe common practice at the present time, thereby greatly reducing the cost ofmanufacture and increasing the efficiency and accuracy of this portion.
Another important object lof the invention is to construct a float valve, of this nature having all of the advantages found in the common or coiiventional fioat valve now extensively in use wherein the entire valve is made of yieldable material, usually rubber.
-A very/special feature of my invention consists in the provision of an efficient and effective clamping mechanism for grasping the edge of the fiexible portion of the valve. lVith the above and ynumerous other objects in view, as will appear as the description progresses, this invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawings, Eigure l is a vertical mid-section of my improved device, illustrating the preferred embodiment thereof,
Figure 2 is an enlarged detailed section showing the manner in which the clamping device grasps the fiexible member,
Serial No. 516,967.
Figure 3 is an enlargedv detailed section showing themanner in which the two clamping sections are drawn together and igure 4 is a section taken on the line 4--4 of Figure 3.
Referring to the drawings in detail it will be seen that the float valve consists of a cup-shaped seating member of yielding material 1 which is provided at its edgel with a flange 2 of yielding material preferably conical shaped and an inverted cup-shaped striifening and supporting member of rigid e material in the form of a clampin mechanism consistingof a pair of conica shaped clamping members or cups 3 and 4.
he clamping member or cup 3 is disposed so that its lower or larger end fits within the flange 2. It is to be noted that the diameter of this end of the clamping member or cup 3 is substantially larger than the diameter of the opening formed by the conical shaped 'flange 2.
An annular groove 5 is preferably ar- V ranged on the exterior of the clamping member- 'or cup 3k adjacent its base edge and a bead 6 is provided on the interior of the conical shaped fiange 2. This beadI 6 aids in holding the inner 'clamp 3 in proper relation to the flange 2.while assembling the various parts.
The outer clamping member or cup 4 is .placed over the inner clamping member or` cup 3 so that an aperture in its apex registers with an aperture in the apexof the inner clamping member or cup 3. A lug 7 including a head 7-a and a shank 7 -b is positioned so as to have its shank pass through these apertures in the clamping members or cups and a nut is within the clamping member or cup 3 for receiving'this shank. This lug 7 is provided with an external thread so as to receive the nut 8, which is preferably conical shaped, whereby the two clamping members or cups may be drawn tightly together so as to firmly and positively grip and clamp the fiange 2 between their walls as is shown to advantage in Figure 2 and it is to be noted that this clamping action takes place a distance from the edge of the cup-shaped seating member l that is at the juncture of fiange 2 with seating member l, or at a point within the diameter of the edge of the cupshaped seating member 1. It is also to be noted that the base edge of the inner clamping member or cup 3 is situated closer to the ber provided near its center with means fo; 40

While I have illustrated and described my 3.
