CENTRIFUGAL MACHIINEE.
Application filed July 30,
To eUni/011iy if may conce/lt lle it known that ll. lliiinii "l". tir-munies, tiltates. residing at tit. Davids` in the county ot' Delaware and tltate ot' Pennsylvania. have invented certain improvements in teiitrit'ugral Machines, ot' which the followingis a specilication.
yllhis invention has as its primary object the provision otl improved means Jfor introducing liquid into a revolving bowl without making contact with the bearing of the part through which it is intrmluced. loi' discharging' liquid trom the bowl at the end ot' a run without makin#` contact with the bearing'. tor lubricatin; 1 the bearing' and tor securing` the ready assembly and dissociation ot the parts.
llesiderata attained are the protection ot the bearing' parts. particularly the bushing and the boss revolving` therein. trom deterioratioii and wear. the ready'removal and replacement oit the di-agr" or bearing. and the ready removal and replacement oi the ieed nozzle independently.
My improvements are designed especially lor application to a case and a suspended eentritugral bowl having` an axial. tubular bottom boss engaged by a drag or bearing permitting it a restrained lateral movement and in the preferred torni thereot' the drag has a skeleton body teleseoped in the case with a bushing1 on the boss above its bottom, the bod v holding' a detachable nozzle ex tending into the bose.
ln the drawings, l is a broken vertial sectional view taken through the bottom ot' a centrifugal machine embodying' a forni ot the invent-ion; Fig. 2 is a broken vertical central sectional view taken transversely to the position shown in Fig'. l; Fig. 3 is a. sectional view taken on the line 23h-3K ot' lfig'. 1; and Fig'. l is a seetional view taken on the line 4H-JH ot lfigr. l.
The mechanism illustrated in the drawings comprises a case l having a bottom aperture Q in which is telescoped a. skeleton plugF or slip drag body 3 provided with a bottom liange t which engages the bottom ot' the case.
The bottom ot the also is provided with a. transverse cylindrical bearingir 5 and the plug 3 is provided with the cylindrical heal'- ing 6 which is complementary to and adapted to register with the bearingn o. it bolt 9 is journalled in the bearing 5 and is provided with the concave or cylindrical notch .stud to move laterally therein.
1919. Serial No. 314,315.
1Q adapted to conform with t the periphery ot the plug 3, to permit the latter to be moved axially with relation to the case and to be locked in place by so that the body thereof the bearing ti'. 1li sen-mental alot 1l in the end of the bolt Sl has projected thei'einto the point oit a screw l2 set in the bottoni ot the case l, the engagement preventing the bolt from beingV withdrawn and the alot being of siieli length that the bolt can be turned 'troni its locking to its unlocking position.
.-li shell or housing* lll is screwed on the reduced neck Ll ot the plug" 3 and holds therein, on the neck la. a tei-rule l5 ot 2- shaped cross-section. through the action ot coiled sprintf 16, and a bushing ll' through the. action ot the ferrule. The terrule A15 is provided with and limited in movement by a stud 18 which extends into the phufs aperture l5). of such size as to permit the stud E' connects the terrule l5 and the bushing' 1l'.
.li Suspended howl 2l) is provided with the axial bottom nipple or tubular boss 2l disposed withinthe parts I3, l5 and l?. the parts 13 and 15 clearingthe boss while the part l? makes a slip lit therewith. it small lateral movement under ti'ictional restraint is permitted to the bottoni ot the bowl through the limited play permitted the terrule 15 subject to the pressure ot the spi-ingr lt. lt will be understood that the boss 21 may be inserted in and removed from the positioned dragby moving the bowl 20 vertically or the drag may be teleseoped relatively to the boss and case with the bowl in p ace. "i
All nozzle is telescoped and seated rev movably in the bearingr 23. axially disposed in the plug' 3. and extends into the boss 221. .lt feed pipe 2l is clamped to the lnittom ot the nozzle by aA coupling nut 25 which turns on the threaded boss 26 termineP part ot' the bearing for the nozzle, the nozzle beiner clamped iii place by the pipe and coupliiirgim and beingr removable on detacliine them. liiqiiid is introduced by the pipe and nozzle through the boss into the bowl without coniing in contact with the exterior ot' the boss. with the bushing oi the enacting parts.
The plug 3 is provided with a duet 2 which leads 'trom a pipe 28 screwed into the flange t to a duet 29 entendiiiga through 'the terr-tile l5 and thence to a duet :42W ertrevolving' the bolt will be engaged in ttl Mtl
tending through the bushing 17, whereby a lubricant is introduced to the joints between the parte subject to wear.
.l e plug 5 has its chamber 3l) provided with an outlet 31 'lor the escape or' :matter discharged from the bowl through the boss 21 at the end of a run, without coming in con act with the exterior of the boss, the bushing or the coacting parts subject to wear. Y
vl-laving described my invention7 l claim:
