JOSEPH LAVOIE, OF MONTREAL, QUEBEC, CANADA.
ELECTRIC HEATER.
Application filed November 25, 1921. Serial No. 517,485.
To all 10 k072i it may concern Be it known that I, JOSEPH LAVOIE, a British subject, residing at 165 Amherst Street. in the city of Montreal, in the Province of Quebec, in the Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Electric Heaters; and I do hereby declare that the following is a true, clear, and correct description of the same.
The present invention relates to improvements in electric heaters described in United States patent application, filed Nov. 26th, 1919, Serial No. 340,959.
The invention is fully described in the present specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:-
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the heater in its closed position as a roomheater. Figure 2 is an end elevation of the heater in its open position as av cooker.
Figure 3 a plan view of Figure 2.
Like. numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.
Referring to the drawing, 1 and 2 are two semi-shells. formed. of end lates 3 and 4 and The said p ates 3 and 4 are each provided with outwardly projecting lugs 6 and 7, the lugs 7 supporting the easing or shells when the heater is in its vertical, or closed position.
\Vhen the hinged shells 1 and 2 are in their horizontal. or open position, the lugs 6 as well as the lugs 7 support the shells as disclosed in Figure 2 of the drawings.
The lugs 6 are preferably secured in pairs, by the bracing bars or foot plates 8.
The heating elements 9 and 10 are suitably enclosed in the shells 1 and 2 and connected to any suitable source of current by means of the cord 11..
'hen the shell parts 1 and 2 are in their closed or vertical. position. a suitable space provided between the heating elements, and in order to prevent the heat from radiating below the heater, a damper plate 19 is provided to close said space. This damper is pivotally mounted preferably in the side adjacent the inner edge of the shell 1 and fits in a suitable recess 18 formed in said shell. A plurality of brackets 14 are provided to support said damper plate 12 when the heater is in its open position, but when the shells are vertical. the damper 12 swings against the adjacent shells (as disclosed in Figure 1 of the drawings) and closes the space provided therebetween.
In the operation of the heater, the shells 1 and 2 are held in their upright position by the outwardly projecting lugs 7. When the heater is to be used as a cooking stove, it is opened. the lugs 7 and 6 supporting the shells. Vhen theheater isused as awarmer, the foot bars 8 are provided for the convenience of the user.
What I claim as my invention is:
1. An electric heater of the character described, comprising two semishells; end plates secured to said shells and hinged together; and lugs projecting from said plates adapted to support said shells when in vertical or horizontal position.
2. An electric heater of the character described, comprising two semi-shells suitably spaced from one another when in vertical position; and a movable damper plate adapted to close said space.
3. An electric heater of the character described, comprising two semi-shells suitably spaced from one another when in vertical position; a recess in one of said shells; and a damper plate adapted to fit in said recess, said plate being pivotally secured whereby it will be tilted, to close the space therebetween when .the shells are in their vertical position.
Signed at Montreal. Quebec, Canada, this 28th day of October, 1921.
JOSEPH LA VOlE.
