Description

Patented Feb. i3, 39123.
Y. ,unirse stares i psone Weerd-aina, or
oENrnIFUGAL Carissimo 'Apyiicatiun mea August 17,
To all 'whom 'it may 'concerv:
Be it known that I, OSCAR WAIrriiiiic, a subject of the King ot' the-Belgiens, residing at Brussels, Belgium, have invented new and usetul lmprovements in `Centrifu- I gal Crushing,r or Grinding Machines', for which. 1 have tiled an application in Belgium, No. 267,322, bearini,r date April 2d, 1914, and of which the following is a specification.
'lhe present invention relates to improvements inl Centrifugal crushing or grinding machines, and has especially for its object to improve the hammers or beaters of such machines. In the crushing or grinding machines, ,pf the typeas constructed up till the present, and especially in the machine described and claimed 'in the application of thesame inventor for United States Letters Patentfiled on 18th April, 1920, Serial y' the drum within the casing, the hammers or beaters, under the action of the centrifugal force strike the material to be crushed or groundand pulverize saine. The aforesaid ham-mers or beaters have previously been composed of a tubular sleeve which was ro` tatably mounted oh the hearing pins, and at each end of which was rigidly fixed a lateral arm or member, and a central hammer head or block was made integral .with or secured to the ends of the laterai arms or members opposed to the sleeve. When the said hammer head or block was worn out, the hainmer as a whole had to be removed and replaced.
In orderI that the present specification mayl be better and more completely understood,
an embodiment of the invention is,vby way ot example, illustrated in`the accompanying drawings, in which:
AFi shows a longitudinal elevation of L the ammers heaters according to the ure-sent invention,
' 1; 2 shows a transverse section same,
Fig. 3 shows a transverse section through amodified form of hammers or heaters accoi-ding to the present invention.
BRUSSELS, BELGIUM.
on Gambino MACHINE.
.1921. semi No. 493,101.
With the above mentioned object in View,
the hammers or beaters according` to the present invention consist of two hammer heads or blocks o and l) connected at each of their ends by means of lateral arms or members c, longitudinal holes d being bored through each ot the suit-able shaped hammer heads or blocks a, b, in order to receive `the bearing pins. Pins or washers e are inserted between each side ot' the hammers or heaters and the inner face of each of the flanges of the rotary drum.
The dotted line f on Fig. 2 of the drawing indicates the way in which the hammer heads or blocks wear out, and with the present arrangement, ,wheny one hammer head or block, for instance a, is worn out, the hammer or beater can be reversed and the other hammer head or block b may be employed.
As shown on Fig.t 3 of the drawings, it may be advantageous to bore the holes d through the hammerheads or blocks a and respectively somewhat excentrioally in transverse section, in' order to provide a greater mass of metal g on -that face of the hammer heads or blocks most exposed to wear. i
The dotted 'line f ofFig. 3 indicates the way in which the hammer heads or blocks L wear out.
` It will be seen that an important economy may be yeffected by the use ot reversible hammers or beaters according to the present invention, and it will'he understood that the invention is not limited to the shape of the hammer headsor blocks shown on the drawings, and that many. modifications in the details may he brought to the hammers or .beaters according to the present invention without departing from the principle of/the latter.
I' claim: ,1, 1. ln acrushing or grinding machine of the type having pivoted hammers subjected tothe action of centrifugal force, reversible hammers each having on its opposite ends prismatic metal hammer-blocks of substantially triangular cross-section with widely rounded edges; and e pair of lateral arms integral therewith and forming a rigid connectionbetween said b10cks,'eneh of said blockshuving u hole of suitable diameter bored longitudinally therethrough for the 'introduction ot' a bearing pin, substantially 'round-edged prismatie metal hammer-blocks of substantially triangulaicross-section out of alignment with one another and -:i pau' yot' lateral arms l'ntegraltherewith and form- Loiseau ing a. rigid connection between said b1ocks,'
there being a substantial thickeningy on the opposed working faces of the two said hammer-blocks; and each of said blocks having u longitudinally extending hole through the eccentric facing ridge-portionsof the blocks, substantially as described.
In testimony thereof I signed hereuntol my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
. OSCAR WAUTHIER. Witnesses: i v
