Be it known that I, GERARD H. GER- AERDTS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of the Bronx, in the county of Bronx and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Mold7 of which the following is full, clear, and eXactdescription.
The present invention has relation to molds particularly designed for the production of window sills constructed from cement, concrete, or other cementitious or plastic materials.
The present invention is more particularly concerned with a mold for the production of window sills provided on the upper face with an inclined depression constituting a drain and on the under face adjacent the outer end with a groove for preventing rain or water froinpassing over the window'sill from iowing onto the wall ofthe building. l
As an object the invention aims to produce a mold of the character described which embodies means for rendering the same adjustable to produce sills of various sizes.
ln increasing or decreasing the size of the mold, it follows that the drain depression in the upper side of the mold must necessarily beproportionately decreased or increased, and it is therefore a further object of the present invention to provide in connection with the mold a plurality of detachable drain depressionforming elements of various sizes which are capable of interchangeable association therewith.
Furthermore the inventiony contemplates in a mold of the character described a construction which affords means for effecting the removal of the finished article without the necessity of waiting until the material has set and hardened, and this without danger of defacing or destroying the corners.
With the above recited and other objects in View, the invention resides in the novel construction set forth in the following specification, particularly pointed out in the appended claims and illustrated in the ac'- companying drawings7 it being understood that the right is reserved to embodiments other Jthan those actually illustrated herein to the full extent indicated by the general meaning of the terms in which the claims are expressed.

v Referring to the drawings by characters of reference, 10 and 11 designate generally a pair of mold sections which are adapted to be adjustably associated with veach other for the prcduction of window sills of various sizes. The moldsection 10 includes a side wall12 and an end wall 13, the former being provided at lone extremity with a bracket 14 having va plurality of openings therethrough and the latter with a plurality of Asets of openings 15 corresponding to the openings .in the bracket, which openings when alignedreceive the bolts 16 for rigidly attaching the end wall to the side wallI at right angle to each other'. riihe mold section 11 is provided with aside wall 17 andan end wall 18, the former having -secured thereto at one extremity one leaf of a hinge 19, the opposite leaf 20 of which is adjustably connected te the end wall 18 by means of bclts21 passing through one of a plurality of sets of openings 22. This arrangement permits of the outwardswinging ofthe end wall with respect to the side wall vof the mold section. The side walls 12 and 17 are each .provided with longitudinally eX- tending reinforcing angle iron strips 23 adjacent the upper and lower edges thereof andl on the outer sides of the same. The side wall 12 of the mold section lO is provided adjacent the upper edge of its inner face with a longitudinally cxtei'iding bead 24- parallel to the upper edge7 which beadv constitutes the means for forming the drip groove in the lower face of the window sill. The lower edges of the end walls 18 and 18 of the -mold members are arranged in the same plane with the lower edgeso-f-the side walls 12 and 1'?, while the upper edges of said end walls are disposed in a plane slightly above the upper edges of said side` walls. The
inner edges of the end walls are provided with inwardly projecting lugs 25 which are designed when the mold sections are assembled to overlie and engage with the upper edge of the side wall of the opposite member. The inner edge ot the end wall 18 is provided with a recess 26 adapted to snugly lit and accommodate the bead 24 on the side wall 12 of the mold section 10. The inner edge oiE the end wall 13 of the mold section 10 is provided with a laterally projecting lug 27 on its outer side which affords a wider bearing surface when the inner edge of the end wall 13 is brought into contact with the inner side of the side wall 17 of the mold section 11. lThe side walls 12 and 17 of the moldsections are provided on their outer sides with longitudinally extending bearing blocks 28 arranged between the reinforcing angle iron strips, 23, the purpose of said blocks being hereinafter set Jforth. To set up or assemble the mold, the inner edges of the end walls 13 and 18 are respectively brought into contact with the inner sides or the side walls 17 and 12, said end walls being first adjusted by means of the bolts 16 and 21 to obtain the proper relative spacing of the side walls 12 and 17 with respect to each other. It is understood that the sections are assembled on any form of base 29 which serves as a bottom for the mold. rl`he means for forming the inclined drain depression in the upper face of the window sill consists of a plate 30 provided with quarter conical extremities 31 and having a flange` 32 extending laterally from the upper edge thereof... The flange 32 is provided with longitudinally extending ears 33 from the opposite ends thereof. A lJ-shaped clamping bar 34 is apertured at one extremity as at 35 to receive the outwardly projecting trunnion 36 for pivotally associating the same with the end wall of the mold sections, one clamp being provided with each of said sections. The opposite extremity of the clamping bar is provided with an adjustable foot 37 and a cam lever 38 cooperating therewith for effecting vadjustments thereof. To set up the mold, the end walls are correspondingly adjusted with respect to the side walls of each mold section and the inner edge oi' said end walls are arranged contiguous or in abutting relation to the inner side of the side wall of the opposite section with the lugs 25 overlying the upper edges of the side walls and with the bead 24 received in the recess 26. The drain depression forming plate 30 is then suspended by the flange 32 thereof from the upper edge of the mold section 11 and the mold sections are shifted longitudinally to advance the end walls thereof toward each other until said end walls contact with the longitudinally extending ears 33 which serve as limiting stops and as kmeans forl centering the plate advance and impinge the feet 37 against the 70 "blocks 28 to lock and retain the mold in set up position. T he plastic or cementitious material is poured intothe mold and tamped down and smoothed oil level with the upper edges of the side walls. The side wall 12 with the bead 24 forms the lower face A of the sill B with the longitudinally extending groove C, while the side wall 17 together with the plate 30 forms the upper face D o1 the sill with the inclined drain depression E. l/Vhen the molding operation is complete, the cam levers 38 are released and the clamping` bars 34 are swung' to an out-of-theway position. The end wall 18 ofthe mold section 11 is then swung outwardly 'on its hinge 19 at an angle to permit of the f removal of the mold sections from the completed article without detacin'g or destroying the corners. rlfhis permits of the removal of the mold without the necessity of waiting until the sills have set and hardened, whereby the same mold may again be employed without loss of time. A plurality of drain depression 'forming plates ott various lengths will be `provided with' each mold4 in order that the depression and the spacing ofthe same from the opposite ends of the sill may be proportionately increased or decreased with the increases or decreases in the length and thickness of the sills to be produced. A mold `for producing window sills constructed of plastic material comprising a pair of mold sections each of which includes a side wall and an end wall having an adjustable 105 connection therebetween, one of which constitutes a hinge for swingingly associating the side and end wall of one section with each other, means carried by the end wall of each section and engageable with the side wall of 110 the opposite section for clamping theinner edges of said end walls against ythe inner sides of the side wall for locking themold in 'set-up condition, and means for tormingan inclined drain depression in the sill detach- 115 ably suspended from the upper edge of the side wall of one section, said means comprising a plate having longitudinally extending ears from its opposite ends engageable with the end walls forspacing' the end walls from 120 each other' and for centeringthe said'plate in the mold.

A mold for window sills comprising a pair of mold sections, each of whichjincludes a side and endiwall, and adjustable connec- 125 tion between the side and end wallsy of each section, one ot which constitutes a hinge joint *for permitting the outward swinging movement of the end wall with respect to the side wall, means carried by the end walls 13o CIK of said sections and engageable With the side Walls of the opposite sections for clamping the inner edges of the end Walls against the inner sides of the side Walls, an inclined drain depression forming plate having a flange at its upper edge engageable over the upper edge of one of the side Walls for suspending the plate therefrom, and ears projecting longitudinally from the opposite ends of the flange and engageable respectively With the end Walls of the sections for relatively spacing the end Walls from each other and from the opposite ends of the depression forming plate.
