()ne of the primary objects of the present invention is to provide simple con" 15% i and economical form of press or 1 making shell bands oi copper 1: metal.
Another object of the invention is to furnish. a machine or press in which a fist washer oi comparatively soft d. ct le metal, such as copper, may he quickly and accurately drawn into cylindrical shape and then rapidlyejected or discharged.
To these and other-ends, the inventionconsists in the novel features and combinations oi": parts to he hereinafter described -z1nd claimed.

Various changes Ina y be made in the press uction herein described. without departing from the scope of my invention as defined in th claims.
It will be understood that the die and die bed, in the term shown, constitute a die menober h. Sing an opening therethrough, with an intermediate stripping shoulder, said shoulder being formed by the lower surface of the die proper.
i l hat I claim is:
1. A machine for iii-airingprojectile bands or the like by drawing a washer-like blanl: through a die, comprising a die provided with a mouth portion to receive and center the blank, and means, cooperating with the die, to engage the upper edge of said blank and, by pressure the *eupon, draw the blank through the die, said nice E comprising a punch having acylindrical lower portion with a rigid lateral shoulder closely adjacent thereto, said shoulder exerting pressure upon the upper edge of the blank to force the 'SLUIIQ 2. In a machine such as described, the conbination of a die harir an opening through the same, there being a washer receiving recess. at the mouth of said opening, the inner surface oi thedie having a fillet below said recess joined with the lower edge of the die by a substantially cylindrical portion, a diebed operatively supporting said die, andonieans, includinga punch having a rigid shoulder thereon, for engaging the upper edge of a washer blank and forcing the same through the die.
3. lin a. machine such as described, the combination of a'die having an opening throughthe same with a washer-receiving and centering recess at the mouth of said opening, a die bed having an opening through the same, in the upper part of which said die is received, the opening at the lower part of said die bed being of somewhat greater diameter than the lower partot the die opening to cause the lower surface ot the die to act as a stripper, anda punch provided with a cylindrical lower portion and a rigid lateral shoulder closely "adjacent thereto to draw the Washer down into the die and then push it out of the die past said stripper.
a. In a machine such as described, the
combination of a die having an opening through the same withawasher-r ceiving recess at the mouth of said opening, the inner surface of the die having fillet below said recess joined with the lower edge of ti e die opening by a cylindrical portion, a die bed having an opening throughthe same, in the upper part of which opening said die is received, the opening at the lower part of said die bed beneath said die being 01 somewhat greater diameter than the lower part of the die opening so as to permit the lower surfa e ol the die to act as a stripper, and a punch having a rounded lower end portion to draw the washer down into the die, a cylindrical portion on the punch above such rounded lower end portion, closely fitting the cylindrical part of the die, and a shoulder on the punch immediately above said cylindrical portion thereof presenting a flat surface for engagement with the upper edge of the blank whereby the blank may be forced through the die into stripping position.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand on the 8rd day of July, 1918.
