The closableand sea'lablecontainer (Figv.ures3, .4, 5, 6 and 7) has bottom 8Hand top; 9 each preferably with-outward stampingsior corrugations 22. and having'rounded peripheral edge lOformed by inwardly turning over the edge 23 ofthe metal upon and securing the insulating lining 2a which may have annulargroove 25 in its exposedsurface whichvedge .is positioned interiorly, a
separable severed wall 11 having one .end
cut and inwardly stepped to form a tongue 12 and an annular groove 18 at each edge complementary to the peripheraledges 10 the closing and locking bail 15 and lever 18 asbefore described and a separable inner wall of insulatin material I preferably in 'the'form of an en ess band 26.
The cloSable and scalable container may be constructed as before described but withoutrthelining of insulating material.
In use an open container is readily assembled byplacing thebottom 8 upon a flat surface positioning-- the severedwallll over and around said-bottom pressing the ends of said wall towards each other until the stepped end 12 passes behind the other end and the bail 15 may be thrown over the end of lever 18 as in Figure 6 when said lever is turned back until the free end of said bail is pressed down behind the knuckle 19 thus drawing the wall 11 tight upon the bottom Smaking-a tight joint and locking the parts ofthe container together.
When it is desired to disrupt or disassemble the container the lever 18 is pulled out as in'Figure 7 and the tail 21 of the lever 18 lifting the bail 15 over the knuckle with receiving means on .inga top,
19 the wall opens and the container is disassembled.
In, encl osing an article or material in a closable container the bottom 8 either plain or with lining 24 thereon is placed upon a flat surfacewith the beaded edge 10 upwards the article or material is placed upon said bottom the wall-26 of insulating material ifrequired is placed upon said lining 24: or seated in the groove 25 when same is formedin .thelining. the top 9 either plain or with lining 24 thereon is then positioned upon the goods or whenthe wall 26 is l fi d upon the; top. edge thereof which edge will seat inthe-groove 25 when same is formed inthe lining and thesevered-wall ll placed around thewhole and itsends drawn, clamped and locked t gether as before described.
The outward stampings or corrugations 22 ,in the bottom 8 and top 9 serve .to strengthen said parts and ensure an .air
spacebeing leftbetween the, containers when a number are packed or stored.
I claim:
1. An improved collapsible closed container consisting of a; b ottom and atop each provided with an inturnedbeaded edge, bottom and top lining pieces engagedand retained respectively by .the beaded edges on the bottom and WP and also provided adjacent races, a ringlike side lining piece engagedby the receiving means in the bottom andtop linlngpieces, aseparable severed .wallprovided with co nplementary corrugations about and adjacent the longitudinal edges for engagement with the beaded edges of the bottom and top respectively, and means for drawing, said severed wall into tight engagement upon said bottom and top and for holding the ends or" said wall together-and in addition locking the ring-likeside lining piece within the receiving means in the bottom andtop lining pieces.
2. A collapsible closed container includa bottom, a contractiblesevered side wall for embracing the edges of the top and bottom, a lining of insulating-.material including a-top p1ece,-a bottom piece and a unitary separable ring-like side piece, means on thetop and bottom for respectively retaining the top and bottom pieces I of the lining, and the topand bottom lining pieces being provided wlth means for accommodating the side lining piece and for locking said piece subsequent to the engagement of the. contractible severed side wall with the top and bottom pieces,
Dated this-eleventh day of Januaryone thousand nine. hundred and twenty two.
