IMPROVEMENT m APPAR Tus FOR TREATING THE EYE.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 143,928, dated October 21, 1873; application filed September 23, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MERRITT F. POTTER, of Kanesville, Kane county, Illinois, have invented a Fountain Eye-Cup, of which the following is a specification:
The object of my invention is to construct an improved instrument .for applying irrigation to the eye.
The-following is a description of the construction and operation of my invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawing making a part of this specification.
A is a reservoir for liquid, to the bottom of which is attached a flexible pipe, B, communieating with the reservoir. This pipe may be about twelve inches long. To the other end of the pipe B, and communicating with it by a tubular stem, D, is attached a small vessel, (3, made of such shape as to conform tothe shape of the eye.
The method of using it is as follows: Place the reservoir a little above the level of the eye.
Then hold the cup 0 011 a level with the middle of the reservoir, and pour the liquid to be used into the reservoir. When the liquid appears in the bottom of the small cup, it may be fitted to the eye. If the head is now bowed downward, or the reservoir carried upward,
the water will rise in the cup and bathe the Witnesses:
