To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, OLIVER O. P. WVILTER- Moon, a citizen of the United States, residing at Middleport, in the county of Stevens and State of Washington, have invented new and useful Improvements in Sewer Cleaners, 7 of which the following is a specification.

' 'This invention relates to machines for cleaningsewers, catch basins and the like, and has for an object the provision of a portable machine, which may be easily and quickly-adjusted.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, which includes a conveyor capable of longitudinal movement to permit of an, adjustment to different depths and which may be swung to a'right angular position to facilitate its transportation from place to place.

Another obj ect is the provision of a sewer, or catch basin, cleaning machine having an agitator, which breaks up the accummulati'on therein, so asto permit of its ready re moval by means'of conveyor buckets, when it may be deposited in a suitable receptacle [upon a surface. I Other objects and advantages of the invention will appear as the following description is read in connection with the accompanying drawings.

Referring in detail to the drawings, wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the invention comprises a frame, which is substantially U-shaped in plan and includes side bars 10 and an end bar 11. The'ends of the frame opposite the end-bar 11 are connected by means of a shaft 12, which is mounted in bearings 13 at the end of the frame. This frame may be carried upon a truck, or other suitable conveyance, and may support a suitable motor, as indicated at it, or the power used for the operation of the machine may be taken from the driving motor of the vehicle.

cludes side bars 15 which are provided with elongated slots 16 therein, through which the shaft 12 passes. Mounted in bearings at each end of the bars 15, upon shafts 17 is a sprocket 18, these sprockets being connected by a chain 19, which also passes over a sprocket 20, mounted upon the shaft 12. The chain 17 carries scoops or buckets 21, which are guided in the bars 15 and a rotary movement imparted to the shaft 12, will, through the sprocket 20, impart movement to the conveyor chain so as to raise and lower the buckets.

Mounted upon the shaft 12 adjacent each of the side bars 10, is a beveled pinion 22, each of these pinions engaging a pinion'23, which is carried upon one end of a shaft 2st,

mounted in suitable bearings 25, carried by the frame. The opposite end of each of the shafts 24 carry pinions 26, which engage pinions 27, mounted upon a shaft 28 disposed transversely of the frame. Also mounted on the shaft 28, is a sprocket 29, which is connected to a sprocket 30 by means of a chain 31, the'last named sprocket being carried by a shaft 32 mounted in bear- 1O of the frame, as indicated at 34, is a standard 35, the latter being preferably formed of trussed metal, and being removably held in a position at right angles to the frame by The standard 35 is suitably connected to the side bars 15, which carry the conveyor, as indicated at 37, so that the said standard will support the conveyor in an upright position, when desired, or will permit of its being swung downward to a position substantially parallel to the frame. A chute 38 carried by the upper end of the side bars 35 receives the material dumped from the bucket-s for the purpose of conveying the said material to a suitable receptacle.

Mounted in hearings in the upper end of the standard 35, are rollers 39 and 39, over which passes a cable 40, one end of the said cable being connected to the upper end of the bars 15 and the opposite end with a drum 11 mounted upon the shaft 41. A suitable clutch 42 serves to control the movement of the drum. By this means the conveyor may be raised or lowered as desired "for the PUItEQSG of adjusting it to various depths, so at as the material Within the catch basin decreases, the conveyor may be lowered accordingly.

Mounted in bearings 13 upon opposite sides o f-each of the bars 15 are shafts l4 carrying beveled pinions 45 and 46 which are adapted to engage alternately a mutilated beveled gear 47 mounted upon the shaft 17, thereby operating pivot armsAS secured to the lower end of the shafts 44. The arms 48 act as agitators to loosen the accumulation within the catch basin, so that it may be readily scooped up by the buckets 21 of the conveyor. These agitators are so .connected that the oscillation of the shafts 424- will impart a sweeping movement to the arms 48., the said armstraveling for a predetermined distance in an arc of a circle, when the Inultilated bevel gear 47 will engage the opposite beveled pinion upon each of the shafts 44 and be moved in a reverse .due to the removal of the accumulation.

- The invention is susceptible of, various changes mats form, proportlons and minor details of construction and the right is here in reserved to inake such changes as properly fall within the scope ofthe appended claims.

Having described the invention, what is claimed is:

1. A machine of the class described comprising a substantially U-shaped frame, a
