patented New 21,
SHAVING BRUSH.
Application filed September 15, 1921, fierial No. 500,761.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that l, THOMAS MclVloNAcLn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Augusta, in the county of liennebec and State of Maine, have invented a new and useful Shaving Brush, of which the tollow ing is aspecification.
This invention relates to shaving brush constructions, and more particularly to a shaving brush having novel means for heating water contained in the handle portion thereof to provide hot water for shaving purposes.
Another object of the invention is to pro vide means for forcing the heated water through the bristles or brush portion of the device.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement oi parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing Figure 1 is a side elevational view of a brush constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view through the brush.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the handle portion 5 of the brush is hollow in formation, and in one end thereof is secured head 6 which supports the bristles 7 of the brush.
This head 6 is provided with an. opening to accommodate the nozzle 8 which tapers toward the outer end thereof, and is provided with a plurality of openings to permit fluid to pass therefrom.
Positioned within the hollow handle poi-- tion 5, is a tubular member 9 that has lower end positioned in the nozzle 8, the upper end thereof terminating in spaced relation with the removable cover 10 so that fluid may pass from the hollow handle por- Renewed October 14, 1922. Serial No. 594,646.
tion into the tubular member to feed the nozzle.
Supported within the hollow handle portion is a disk 11 which is provided with a central opening to accommodate the tubular member 9, and as shown this disk is of a diameter to closely engage the inner wall of the handle portion 5 to act as a plunger to "force the fluid upwardly. Openings 12 are termed in the wall of the handle portion adjacent to the bristle end or the brush, the openings being elongated and extending to a point substantially intermediate the ends of the handle 5. Arms 13 have connection with the disk 11 and have right angled portions 14 extending through the openings to be engaged by the fingers of the operator to cause the disk 11 to be moved longitudinally 01 the handle portion for ejecting the fluid.
The handle 5 is provided with a threaded portion at the upper end thereof, which threaded portion accommodates the removable cap 1 1 which is formed with air openings 15, to permit air to pass to the space between the cover 15 and removable cover 10, the space between the covers 10 and 15 providing a heating chamber to accommodate a suitable tablet such as solidified alcohol or the like, which may be ignited to heat the water contained in the hollow handle 5.
ln the use of the device, water is placed in the hollow handle portion, whereupon. the cover 10 is positioned on the handle. A tablet as described is placed in the cap 1% and ignited. it follows that when the cap is replaced, on the handle portion, the heat from the tablet heats the water in the handle which may be forced to the bristles or brush portion by means of the dislr 11.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is A shaving brush including a hollow handle portion, bristles at one end of the handle portion, a tubular member extending into the handle portion and adapted to discharge fluid into the bristles, a disk within the hollow handle portion and having an opening to accommodate the tubular memher, said dish contacting with the inner walls of the hollow handle portion, said handle In testimony that I claim the foregoing as portion having elongated openings, arms my own, I have hereto afiixed my signature 10 having connection with the disk and having in the presence of tWo Witnesses.
right angled portions extendin throu h the openings, said arms adapted to be i iioved THOMAS MCMONAGLE' longitudinally of the body portion to move Witnesses: v
the disk Within the body portion to force ALBERT L. GAUDET,
fluid therefrom. BERNARD L. JAooBs.
