Be it known that ll,- JosErH P. Mineras, a citizen of the UnitedStates, residing at Muncie, in the county' of' Delaware and State of indiana, have invented a new and useful Leer Feeder, of which the following is a specification. f
My invention relates to improvements in.
charging or loading devices vfor leers, furnaces, and the like. One of the objectsv of my invention is to provide a charging or loading apparatus particularly designed for handling glass ware and ther like which shall smoothly and easily introduce the articles into the leer with the maximum speed and minimum breakage.
Another object of my invention is to providel a charging means which willintroduce the articles into the leer; furnace, or the like without stopping the movement of the articles on the conveyor which carries the irticles across the charging opening of the eer. I
For the purpose of disclosing my invention I have illustrated one embodiment thereof in the accompanying drawings, in which:

Fig. 8 is a sectional view taken on the line 3--3 of Fig. 2; and
Fig. i is a detail section 'taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 3.
ln lthe embodiment illustrated, traveli immediately in front of the leer 5 and a jacent the receiving openin thereof is a continuously moving artic e conveyor 6 which at one end is adapted to pass over a suitable sprocket 7. This conveyor is o the usual type and the glass or other articles intended to be lied into the leer are pl thereon and are fed by the conveyor across the front entrance of the leer.
For the purpose of moving the articles o the conveyor and introducing them into the -leer l provide a pusher bar 8 which is adapted to move transversely across the conveyor and at the same time move in the direction or travel of the conveyor. This pusher bar at the end from which the articles approach has a rearwardly extending linger 9 to revent, in event of an accidental stopping or the pusher bar in its movement across the conveyor, the articles from bein conveyed behind the bar and bein pull od they conveyor during the retracti e movement thereof. 4
The pusher bar is supported by a pair of horizontally disposed arms 10 secured at the lower end of a pair of vertical bars 11 which in turn, at their upper ends, are supported upon and secured to the forward end 4of a rectangular lframe 12, the pusher bar being additionally braced by means of brace bars 13 which extend from the rear end of the frame 12 to the arms 10. The rectangular frame 12 is supported at four points by and operates in a plurality of guideways 14, each comprising a pair of horizontally disposed spaced-apart bars or rods, which guideways are in turn secured upon a channel member 15 hung by means of rods 17 from suitable supporting beams i6 project ing from the face of the leer.
The guideways 1a extend parallel with the line of travel of the conveyor and the two side members 18 of the frame 12 operate therein. These guideways permit a. transverse movement of the frame 12 'relative to the line of travel of the conveyor and also a movement of the frame in a direction coincident to the line of travel of the conveyor.
Mounted on the underside of the channel 15 are a pair of cam members 19 and 20. These two cam members are or the same construction so that a description of one will be suiiicient. 0n the under face of the cam member 19 there is provided a cam groove having a triangular path. The base 21 of the triangle is parallel to the line of movement of the conveyor o past the 1front of the leer while the two legs 22 and f 23 of the triangle extend toward the leer.
A suitable roller 24 secured upon one of the side members 18 of the frame 12 operates in the cam track of the member 19 and a similar roller 25 secured to the opposite side member operates in rthe cam track of the cam member 20.
To insure the travel of the rollersm the right direction, shownby the arrows in Fig. 3, at the junction of the leg 23 with the base 21 there 1s provided a gate 26 on a pivoted arm 27 provided on its underside with a cam face 28. As the roller asses beneath the cam the gate is raised 'ut when the roller enters the track o the base 21. the

gate closes to prevent the roller from again entering the track of the leg 23. A similar gate 29 is provided Where the track of the hase 2l joins the track of the leg 22.
rihe pin on which the roller is mounted extends dovvnivardly7 to engage in a socket formed in the end of a piston rod reciprocated by a piston 3l operating in a cylinder 32. ythis cylinder is pivotally mounted on the under side ot' the channel l5 and at each end is provided with inlet and discharge openings connected respectively with inlet and discharge pipes 33 and 84. The inlet and discharge pipes 33 and 3st at one end of the cylinder are connected to a pipe 35 and at the opposite end to a pipe 36. These pipes 35 and 36 are connected to a valve member 37 connected with a. fluid .pressure supply pipe 38 and having an exhaust opening 39. T his valve member is operated by a cam 40 driven hy' a gear ll meshing with a gear 42 mounted upon the shatterQ the sprocket 7 and the operation of the valve is timed to reverse the pressure in the cylinder at the moment the trame l2 reaches the end ot' its longitudinal movement in either direction. Each of' the inlet pipes B3 is provided with a check valve t3 and each ot the discharge pipesv 34tis provided with a globe l'valve all by which the rate of escape ot the duid under pressure from the cylinders may he graduated to synchronize thespeed of the forward longitudinal movement ot the pusher bar with that of the conveyor. In a leer feeding mechanism, the combination with a continuously moving article carrying conveyor traveling in front ot the leer month, ot' a pusher for moving` the articles carried thereon transversely to and oilt said conveyor, said pusher having a simultaneous movement transversely to the line of travel of the conveyor and in a direction with the line of travel ot the conveyor.

In a leer feeding device, the combination with a continuously moving article carrying conveyor,travelingin front ot the leer mouth, ot' a. pusher for moving the articles carried thereon transversely to and oil the conveyor and means for operatirpn the pusher to move the same across the conveyorivhile traveling with the conveyor.

In a feeding device, the combination with a continuously moving conveyor, of a pusher, a pair of stationarilyl mounted tri'- angular cams having their basesparallel With the line of movement of the conveyor and their apexes extending toward the conveyor, rollers connected to said pusher and arranged to engage said cams, and means for imparting a reciprocatory movement to the pusher in the direction of the line of travel of the conveyor.
10. In a feedin device, the combination with a continuous y moving conveyor, of a pusher, a triangular cam member having its base parallel with the line of movement of the conveyor and its apex extending toward the conveyor, a cam engaging member, one of said members being stationarily mounted and the other connected with said pusher and means for imparting to said pusher a reclprocato-ry movement in the direction of the line of travel of the conveyor.
11. In a feeding device, the combination with a continuously moving conveyor, o f a. pusher, a fluid-pressure operated piston for imparting to said pusher a reciprocatory movement in the direction of the line of travel of the conveyor, means for cushioning said piston at the limit of its stroke, and means for imparting to said pusher a movement transverse to the line of travel of the conveyor While it is moving in the same di- 'rection as the conveyor.
12. In a feeding device, the combination With a continuously moving conveyor, of a pusher, a air of triangular cam members having their bases parallel with the line of movement of the conveyor and their apexes extending toward the conveyor, a pair of cam engaging members secured at the opposite ends of said pusher-arranged to engage said cams, and means for imparting a reciprocatory movement to the pusher in the direction of the l.line of travel of the conveyor.
13. In a feedin device, the combination with a continuous y moving conveyor, of a pusher, and means including a cam for producing a lateral and longitudinal movement of the pusher in the direction of travel of the conveyor, and a retractile movement of the pusher free from the conveyor.
