Application filed January 18, 1922. Serial No. 530,067.
T ll h it may 0011mm; the tray, which in this instance issloping Be it known that I, MAX IIUNIMELFARB, or angularly disposed relative to the top a resident of Brooklyn, Kings County, State surface 17 of the tray. The bottm flange 13 of New York, and a citizen of the United of each side and end member overlies the 60 States of America, have invented certain bottom surface 18 of each filler, the bottom new and useful Improvements in Trays, of plate 19 of the structure being slipped bewhich the following is a specification. tween each bottom flange 13 and adjacent This invention relates to improvements surface 18 of the filler 14. To secure the in trays, the main object being to provide a glass plate 20 in position, I place same 65 leak-proof tray or a tray through which against the flange 12 and apply an angle water or other liquids spilled upon the top strip 21 thereto, one leg of which is soldered surface thereof will not leak through onto to flange 12, as indicated by 22. The lower the support therefor. It frequently happens flange of the angle strip is bent inwardly that highly polished tables are marred by as at 24 to produce yieldability so that the 70 liquid which leaks through a tray placed edge thereof can be pressed firmly against thereon, or expensive linen rendered wet the glass plate 20. Between plate and and unsightly thereby. By means of my lower flange of the angle strip 21, I apply improved tray construction, I produce a a waterproof cement and gasket indicated tray through which liquid cannot pass, as I by 23. The bottom plate 19 will be placed 75 20 eliminate open joints or connections. in position by slipping same under flanges I will now describe my invention in de- 13 of the side and end members and then tail, the novel features of'which I will point soldered thereto, as indicated by 25. It will out in the appended claims, reference being be apparent-that water cannot leak through had to the accompanying drawing wherethe connections of the tray members, as they 80 25 in will all be soldered, including the connec- F10. 1 1S a top plan view of a tray emtions 26 at the meeting ends of the side and bodying my 1mprovements; end members 8, 9, 10 and 11. By means of Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional view, the my improved construct-ion, I eliminate padsection being taken on line 22 in Fig. 1; ding between the glass plate 20 and bottom 35 Fig. 3 is a fragmentary bottom plan view plate 19.
of the tray, the bottom plate being omitted; In the modified. form, indicated in Figs. Fig. 1 is a fragmentary bottom plan view 1, 5 and 7, the filler 14 will be provided with of a modified form of my invention, the bota plurality of longitudinally disposed slots tom plate therefor being omitted; 26 and 27, the flange 12 of each side and 90 Fig. 5 is a sectional View of the modified end member being inserted into slot 26,while form of my invention corresponding to slot 27 receives one edge of a flat strip 28. Fig. 2; The other edge of strip '28 is soldered to Fig. 6 is a bottom plan view of a tray the angle strip 21, as at 29, Fig. i. The made in accordance with my invention; and meeting edges 30 of the strip 28 are soldered 95 Fig. 7 is a fragmentary sectional view, together. The strips 28 are extra preventathe section being taken on a line 7*? in tives to stop leakage. To prevent liquid Fig. 5. from seeping through the joints at the cor- To construct my improved leak roof ners 31 of the tray, I provide angle-plates 32 tray, I utilize channeled side and end .rame which pass through slots 33 in the side and 160 members 8, 9, 10 and 11., having inwardly end members 8, 9, 10 and 11 and also projecting flanges 12 and 13, there being a through slots 34; in the fillers 1 1 (see gap between the upper flange 12 and lower 1 and 7). The angle plates 32 will be or bottom flange 18. Each channel member soldered to the end and side members 8, 9, carries a filler 1 1 of wood or other suitable 10 and 11. 10-5 material to render the sides and ends fit to What I desire to secure by Letters Patreceive screws or threaded members of posts, out is handles, etc, which are not herein illus- 1. In a tray, channeled end and side trated. It will be seen that each filler 14 is frame-members connected at the ends there- L-shaped or under cut to provide a lip 15 of, each member having an extension pro- 110 which is inserted between flange 12 and top jecting inwardly in parallelism with the top member 16 of each side and end member of surface of the tray, a glass plate. having the jecting surface along its upper edge in contact with said extension, and angle strips applied to the edges of said plate, one member of each strip being soldered to the extension of the adjacent frame member, the other member overlapping the bottom edge of the glass plate, the member of the angle strip which overlaps the bottom edge of the glass plate being bent toward the plate to provide a yieldable edge, the meeting ends of the angle strips being soldered together.
2. In a tray, channeled end and side frame members connected at the ends thereof, each member having an extension proinwardly in parallelism with the top surface of the tray, a glass plate having the surface along its upper edge in contact with said extension, angle strips applied to the edges of said plate, one member of each strip being soldered to the extension of the adjacent frame member, the other member overlapping the bottom edge of the glass plate, the member of the angle strip which. overlaps the bottom edge of the glass plate being bent toward the plate to provide a yieldable edge, the meeting ends of the angle strips being soldered together, and layer of waterproof cement applied to the plate at the point where the overlapping member of the angle strip contacts with said late. p 3. In a tray, channeled end and side frame members connected at the ends thereof, each member having an extension. projecting inwardly in parallelism with the top surface of the tray, aglass plate having the surface along its upper edge in contact with said extension, angle strips applied to the edges of said plate, one member of each strip being soldered to the extension of the adjacent frame member, the other member overlapping the bottom edge of the glass plate the member of the angle strip which overlaps the bottom edge of the glass plate being bent toward the plate to pro Vide ayieldable edge, the meeting ends of the angle strips being soldered together, a filler for said channeled frame members, and a bottom plate having its edges inserted between said fillers and the adjacent bottom flange of the frame members.
4:, In a tray, channeled side and end frame members, an extending lip carried by each frame member, said lip including a flange extending inwardly into the channel in parallelism with the top surface of its frame member, a bottom flange carried by each frame member disposed in parallelism with the flange extending from said lip, glass plate supported by the flange on said lip, angle strips applied to the edges of the plate, one member of each strip being soldered to the flange on said lip, the other member overlapping the bottom edge of the plate, a filler for said frame members, and a bottomplate having its edges located between each filler and the adjacent bottom flange of each frame member.
5. In a tray, channeled side and end frame members, an extending lip carried by each frame member, said lip including a flange extending inwardly into the channel in parallelism with the top surface of its frame member, a bottom flange carried by each frame member disposed in parallelism with the flange extending from said lip, a filler for each frame member having two parallel slots longitudinally thereof, the flange on said lip being inserted into one of said slots, a. glass plate supported by the flange on said lip, angle strips applied to the edges of the plate, one member of each strip being soldered to the flange on said lip, the other member overlapping the bottom of the plate, a flat strip soldered along one of its edges to each side and end angle strip, the other edge of each strip being inserted in the second slot carried by each filler, and an angle plate located at each corner of the tray passing through said frame members, and the fillers retained thereby.
