Application flied may a, rear. Serial Ho. cameo.
To all'whom it may concern:
v Be it lrnown that l, Cmrronn I. Swear, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sterling, in the county of Whiteside and State. of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Milk-Can Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to milk-can attachments, and has for. its purpose to provide a convenient holder and discharge means for cans containing condensed milkand similar It is more specially designed for use with cans containing condensed milk or cream which are commonly found in the markets, and which possess a uniform size and'shape. I
One of the purposes of the invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive frame; which can he quicklv attached to a milk can, so as to he secured against accidental release therefrom, such frame beingprovided with a handle, so as to convert the can into a pitcher.
Another purpose of the invention is to provide an outlet for the contents of the can,
which will automatically furnish a discharge means for the contents of the can, upon the device being attached to a can. Such discharge means is of such a character as to thoroughly drain the can..'
Another purpose of the device is to provide in connection with said discharge -meens an air inlet or vent, also provided with means for hein automatically placed in communication wlth the interior of the can, upon the device being attached thereto.
The above-named, and other features and advantages of the invention will he. more fully apprehended from the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 is a side elevation, partly in section, of a can with my invention attached thereto. 7 v
Fig. 2 is a plan iew thereof.
1 represents a can of usual construction' provided at to and bottom with rims 2 an 8. t is a meta bar, adaptedto extend across thetop of the can, and connected hy an arm 5 with a ring 6, encircling the can at a point above the bottom thereof. At the opposlte end of the her 4 is a downwardly project-- ing arm 7, formed into a handle 8, the lower end of which is attached to'the ring 6. Near its forward end the her d is pro ing a frame to he engaged over a can punch 9 is spout 11, provided at its outer end with a hinged can 12, which prevents the air entering the can when it .is not in use. punch 9 is angular in crosssection, which results in the cuttin of a clean hole a punch is forced into the same. vents leakage of the contents of the can round the punch, as might occur with the use of a round punch, which frequently leaves a ragged edge. The holes 10 are pro= vided as near to the upper end of the punch as is practical, so that when the can .is in an inverted position, the entire conteiits will be drained therefrom. I
Near the rear end of the her 4 is a similar lhis prein the top of the can when the punch 13, provided with openings 14:, cornmunicating with a vent 15 in the bar 4, normally closed by a shutter 16, pivoted on the har. Near the upper end of the arm 5 is a catch or looking tongue 17, formed hy striking a small portion of the arm inward-1y, and the arm 7 is provided with a similar catch or locking tongue 18. When the device is in position on a can, as shown in F 1g. 1,-such catches enga e'the edge of the rim 2 of the can, and hold t e frame against accidental release therefrom. Thev application of a little force will release such catches.
The device is attached to the can by slip ping the ring 6 downwardly over the same until the punches 9 and 13 come in contact with the top of the can, and then forcing the same into the top until the bar 42 is fully seated. By opening the shutter 16, and tipping up the can the contents will flow outwardly throu hthe spout 11. The cap .12 on theiend; 0 open or close, as the can is tipped forwardly or the reverse.
' The ring: 6 is spaced from the her l a sufiicient distance to allow for a handle 8 of suitable proportions.
the spout will automatically llll What I claim as In invention, and desire to secure lo Letters l atent, is:
l. A device of the class descrihed compris having an end rim, said frame consisting or a bar adapted to lee-disposed over said end of the can, a memher to extend around the can inwardly of said end, arms connecting the bar, and the member, outlet and inlet punch devices carried by the her, said ad tion.
' 2. A device of the class described comprising aframe to be engaged over a can having an end rim, said frame consisting of a bar adapted to be disposed over said end of the can, a member to extend around the can inwardly of said end, arms connecting rim of the can for holding the frame in ap- 15 plied position, [said tongues being toward the end of the can over'which the" bar. of theframe is disposed.-
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
