Be it known that L JAMES H. EAs'rMAN,
acitizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, in the County of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Electrotherapeutic Apparatus, of which the following is a specification. p
v This invention relates'to so-called violet ray machines or electrotherapeutic apparatus. It is the object of the present invention to provide a'machine of this character which has a special arrangement of the vibrator and the adjusting screw inconnection with the case which carries the electrodes and the handle. It is desirable to embody the vibrator including its coiland thecondenser in a com'partment of the case the electrodes, the electrode handle and the cord alsobeing arranged in the case about the conipartment containing the vibrator and condenser.-`

The', arrangement that ,I have designed is such that it requires no additional fixture or motion-converting devices to permit a right angular disposition of the adjusting screw with respect to the axis of the coil, as will presently be explained.

The case is simply a shallow, square or rectangular case having a body a. and a cover b. The cover b has on its inside suitable clips c which hold a variety of glass vacuum electrodes and metal electrodes. The heads of these electrodes project above the cover and fit into the chamber e of the body of the case. f designates an appara-tus compartment which is divided off from the chamber e by the partition g. The other end of the magnet coil connects by the lead 2 with the post m The condenser is hooked up to the binding post m bythe lead 2.
From the above description it will be evi dent that the hook up shown in Fig. 5, diagrammatically, is had, namely, one side of the service line runs to the magnet coil 7:, the other side connects directly with the armature post 3. The primary 12 of the induction coil has one end connected with the adjusting screw q and the other end connected with the condenser 4. The other side of the condenser connects by the lead 5 with the armature post 3. It will, theefore, be seen that the service line leads directl through the primary of the induction coi across the interrupter gap, and thence back to the wall plug. The condenser is bridged across the interrupter gap and the primary of the induction coil is in circuit with the condenser.
The armature post 3 is Suspended from the lid or cover 6 of the apparatus compartment. That is, the adjusting screw is extended `'vertically through thetop of the lid but the armature lying on its side has to have a separate interrupter device connected to the; screw by some motion-converting devices, such as a worm and gear or some siniilar device, re-
quiring suitable bearings, hangers, etc.,
which makethe Construction complicated and costly. This is all done away with by my arrangement.
What I claim is: e a 1, In i electrotherapejutic apparatus,` the combination of a case providedwith an apparatus compartment including a cover, a magnet coil supported with its a'xis arallel to the said cover and provided with a core having an extension beyond the end of the coil,
an armature and armature arm funetioning at angles to the axi of said nragnet` coil, the armature adapted to bear against the side of the core extenson, and an adustmg screw Ior the nterrupter gap running through said cover at right angles to the axis ot the magnet core.

In electrotherapeutic apparatus, the comhination of a 'case provided with a shallow apparatus compartment having a removahle lid, a magnet coil and core supported on the under side of said lid with the magnet having its axis running arallel with said lid, a core provided with an extension beyond the end of the coil, an armature post Suspended from the armature lid, an armature arm supported at one end therehy, an armature supported on such arm and functioning at right angles to the aXis of the coil and adapted to abut against the side of the core extension, and an adjusting screw for the interrupter gap running through the said lid and having its end forming one terminal interrupter gap while the other' terminal of the interrupter gap isformed by thearmature arm.

In electrothe'apeutic apparatus, the combination of a magnet coil and core, a core provided with an extension extending ,beyond the end of the coil and provided with an armature seat, an armature functioning at right angles to the axis of the coil and adaptedto ahut against the seat atthe side of the core extension,:and an adjusting screw for the interrupterfgapdisposed at right' angles with respect to 'the axis' of the core and having at its end an interrupter gap terminal, the other interrupter gap terminal' being afi'orded by thevend of the armature arm.
