Be it known that we, OSCAR V. 13RZAZOW'? SKY and Evnnn'r'r MolViLLIAMs, citizens of the United btates, residing at Alpena, in the county oi Jerauld and State of: South Dakota, have invented certain 'newanduset'ul Improvements in Door Attachments for Shelling-ldachine Hoppers, of which the fol lowing is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
Very often in shelling corn andother grain, stones, sticks and othei foreign matter are fed through the sheller with the grain. lVhen such. foreign matter reaches the end of thefeed auger or screw (not shown), it very often clogs the passage of the grain, CtUlSlDgi pressure against the sides of the casing. Very often the screw is prevented from turning due to its clogging or jamming, causing breakage of the parts; and as previously statedprevents the passage of the grain.
In order to relieve this clogging and the retarding of the passage of the grain and to prevent breakage of parts, it is the purpose of the presentinvention toprovide a door in cluding means at the top of the door to retain the upper part of the door in position,
and a break pin. at the lower part otthe door to, retain the lower part of the door in place. In this case the pressureo'f the torelgninat ter in the casing of the shelling mach ne and the pressure of the grain is urged againstthe inner face-of the door, and when this pressure upon the inner face of the door becomes great enough, the break pin; will sever, hence releasmgthe lower' portlon of the door, said door being urged outwardly,
and when itslower portion is moved far enough, the, upper part of the door w'll an? tomatically release and hence permit the doorto fall from the door opening.
Still another purpose is to provide a releasable door "for a casingot a: shellingma' .chine provided with extensions at its top for" engagement with a :pair ot-keepers, and a" single extension at the bottom provided with an openlng, through which and through a flange of a casting Of'Stlltl casing abreak pin ,may extend, so that when sutlicient pressure is exerted against the inner "face the door, the break pin will snap and allow the door to push outwardly at the bottom, whereby the extensions at the 'topmay withdraw from the keepers, and thereby entirely release the door, thereby relieving'the pressure on the lnterior of the casing, and enabling the feed auger or screw (not shown) to again operate.
- It is to be understood that thelparticulars herein given are inno way limitative and that while still keeping withinthe scope of the invention, any desired modifications of detail and desired proportions may be made in the apparatus according to circumstances. Referring to the dra-win s, -1 designates the casing in which the feed auger orscrew I door 6, by, means of bolts orrivets"prefer? ably the latter 10 is a bar 11, the upper end of which. engages inthe elongated notch or recess 8 of thereintorcing bar. The lower end of the bar 11 terminates in an ear or lug 12, which extends laterally at right angles to the bar 11, and is provided with an opening or aperture 13, which registers with the opening or aperture 14 in the lower flange of the casting 2 of the sideof the hopper. A suitable holding "break pin--15 engages door in position-and the break pin applied; p r
through the registering apertures 13 and 14, to holdv the lower end of the bar 11 in position, and thereby assisting materially in lower end of the reinforcing bar 16 is se-- cured to the bar 11 by the lower rivet or bolt, which holds the bar 11 to the door. In order that the upper end of the bar 11 may engage the elongated-notch or recess 8, it is extended beyondthe-upper edge of the door. The bar 16 is also extended beyond one edge and above the upper edge of the door, and is slightly curved at its upper end to engage the other elongated recess or notch 9 of said reinforcing bar 5, which acts to hold the door securely in position.
Obviously should there be any foreign matter, such asstones and the likeqin the corn or other grain when being fed into the hopper of the sheller, it will create pres sure on the inner face of the door 6 to such an extent as to cause thebreak pin 15 to break, then the pressure on the inner face of the door will cause the lower end of the door to move from engagement with the door opening, and when the lower end of the bar 11 is forced beyond the outer edge of the lower flange of the casting 2, the upper ends-ofthe bars 11" and 16 will withdraw from the notches or recesses 8 and 9, and permit the. door to fall from its position in the opening, thus allowing the escape of the foreign matter. In fact'the foreign matter may become partly fed through the auger or screw, and then cause a stoppage in the operation of the feed screw, or the foreign matter such as-stones may jam in the under portion'of the feed screw or anger, and while the screwmay continue turning, the grain will not pass through, and therefore will jam, andwhen this is the case the grain, such as corn or the like coming thereafter will cause pressure on the door, resulting in the breaking of the pin and'releasing the door, allowing theescape of the grain. \Vhile the sheller may continue in its operation, in-

2 The combination with a passage through which material is forced and provided'with a door opening-in the side thereof an automatic releasable door mounted in said opening, means for detachably holding the upper portion of the door in position, and breakable means for *operatively holding the lower portion ,ofthe door in position, whereby as a result of pressure on the inner face of the door the breakable means may be severed and permit the lower portion of the door to disengage from the opening, allowing the upper portion of the door to be automatically released.

The combination with a passage through which material is forced, including a casting provided with adoor opening, said casting having amarginal lateral flange, a reinforcing bar connected to the upper lateral flange and provided'with notches, a bar engaging said door opening and provided with a. pair of. reinforcing bars, the upper ends of whichbeing engageable with said notches. and breakable means operatively connecting the lower end of one of the bars and the lower lateral flange of the casting, and adapted to break as a result of pressure onthe inner face of the door, allowing the lower portion of, the door to disengage from the opening, and thereby automatically withdraw the upper ends of the bars from the notches, and permitting a release of the door.
