ELECTRIC TRANSFORMER.

Be it known that I EDOUARI) ViinovnLLi, citizen of the Republic of France, and resident of Paris, France, (post-office address 4 Rue de Naples), have invented a new and useful Improvement in or Relating to Electric Transformers (for which I have filed an application in France on October 29, 1920), which improvements are fully set forth in the following specification.
This invention relates to an electric high voltage transformer.
In order to make the following description clear the accompanying drawings show by way of example the apparatus according to the present invention.
Figure l is a front elevation and l ig'urc 2 a section on the line X Fig. 1.
The apparatus comprises a coil 1 which constitutes the primary. It is supported in a tank 2 of oil columns 3, 4 which are hollow and through which the high tension conductor may be introduced. This coil is stiffened in any desired manner and held in place by suitable holders 5 and 6 which are attached to the lower ends of the col umns 3 and 4 and which ei'i'ibrace the coil, as shown.
In a plane at right angles to the primary coil is arranged an annular core or ring 7 of magnetic sheet metal having practically the same dimensions as the coil 1 and supported relatively to the high tension coil so that everywhere the distance apart of the Y of Serial No. 456,874.

At the bottom part of the magnetic ring 7, is a winding 8 which forms the secondary. The lead and return wires to and from thesaid secondary follow the wall of the ring 7, and the arrangement is such that all the distances such as 9 are such as to prevent a discharge across the di-electric. In the foregoing apparatus the insulation is obtained solely by the medium in which the apparatus is placed, and owing to the arrangement of the two coils the magnetic leakages are reduced to a minimum.
1 claim as my invention:
An electric transformer, comprising an oil tank; two hollow columns extending thereinto and provided at their lower ends with holders; a primary coil engaged at opposite points by said holders to be supported thereby; high tension conductors extending through the hollow columns and electrically connected with the primary coil; and a secondary coil embodying a ring of magnetic material suspended from the top of the tank in a vertical plane at right angles to the plane of the primary coil, and a winding carried by said ring; both coils being submerged in the oil in the tank, and the distance between the two coils being everywhere sufliciently great to prevent a discharge across the dielectric.
