IMPROVEMENT IN CLOCK AND WATCH KEYS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 143,285, dated September 30, 1873; application filed December 4, 1872. i.
To all whom it may concem Be it known that I, PHILIPJ. HOEELIGEE, ofthe city of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented an Improved Clock and Watch Key, of which the following isa speciiication:
The key, instead of having the usual square opening to t the square post of the Watch, is cut crosswise at the bottom, so s to form four projections, which, in Winding up the Watch, exert the pressure on the sides of the post iustead of on the corners, as usual. The corners of the post, consequently, do not cut into the key, and do not Wear a round opening in the latter, as is the case With ordinary keys.

2 is a view of the bottom, A A A Abeing the projections, C C C G the cut, and P the post, ofthe Watch.
The dotted line 'shows the projections enlarged, so as to present a dat side to the post instead of a sharp point, but still avoiding the pressure on the corners of the post. The tube of the key may, also, be cut scalloped, so as to make Contact with the post of the Watch by means of one or more sharp or flat points.
I claim as my inventioni A Watch or clock key, having prongs A arranged as shown, so that the pressure, in Winding, is exerted upon the sides of the Windingpost, the corners of Which project between the prongs. 4
