IMPROVEMENT IN CARPET-FASTENERS.

Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 143,238, dat-ed September 30, 1873-; application filed February 21, 1873.

To all whom it may concern:

Beit known that I, CHARLES HARTING, of the city of Washington, District of Columbia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Carpet-Fasteners; and I do hereby declare the followin gto be anexact description thereof,

reference beinghad to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specication, which are improvements on my carpet-fastener patented May 7, 1872.

Figure l represents a side elevation of the offset B near the bottom of the nail, and a anged head, E, so that the nail can be turned or drawn out of the conical tube lD with the fingers. C is an angular slit or groove in the inside of the tube D, in Which the projection B of the nail slides up and down When the nail is inserted or Withdrawn from the tube D.

The tube D is made of metal, and first inserted in a door of the room; and, When the carpet is put down, the nail is pressed through the carpet, and down through the tube D. The nail being then slightly turned, the oiiset B fastens itself against the lower edge of the tube D, and the carpet is held securely to the floor.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The combination of the nail A, having projections B and E, with the tube D and slot C, as herein described, and for the purposes set forth.
