To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I. Josnrn J. MAGRADY, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and-useful Improvements in Decks or Platforms for Wagon Scales, of which the following is a specification.
lJIy present invention relates generally to scales and more particularly to scales of heavy tonnage capacity, my object being the provision of an improved deck or platform for that type of scales in which the deck or platform forms part of a roadway or alleyway, which will be strong and durable and which, when necessity arises, may be easily and quickly removed considering its size and weight.

Figure 4 is an enlarged detail section through a portion of the deck taken on line 44- of Figure 3, and
Figure 5 is a detail perspective view of one of the separators.
Referring now to these figures and particularly to Figures 1 and 2, my improved deck, designed to rest upon the upper lengthwise series of Lbeams 10, consists of a plurality of transversely disposed sections, each section composed of series of lengthwise beams 11 connected by cross battens 12.
Each of the beams 11 is covered by an in verted channel bar 13, and these channel bars 13, beams 11 covered thereby, and the cross battens 12 are connected by bolts 15 for the reception of which the beams 11 are bored and the channel bars 13 and cross battens, the latter in the form of angle irons, are punched. The heads 16 of these bolts are disposed against lead or other compressible washers let adapted to form a watertight joint, and the heads are preferably of the mushroom type to interfere as little as possible with the movement of vehicles over the deck.
The lower ends of the bolts 15 are preferably engaged by clamping nuts 17 and also look nuts 18, the latter extending below the Serial No. 521,806.

The supporting beams 11 of the deck are mounted in spaced apart parallel relation not only in each section of the deck. but between sections, and this spaced relation is maintained by separators 19 between the depending side flanges 20 of the channel or covering bars 13 as particularly shown in Figures 4t and 5, each separator being disposed lengthwise between beams to project transversely above and across one of the I-beams 10 for protection purposes.
Each separator 19 has a central upstanding portion 21 projecting above its upstanding side walls 22, and provided with inclined faces 23 sloping downwardly toward opposite ends thereof whereby to deflect rain and moisture downwardly upon its lengthwise inclined upper surfaces 24 at opposite sides of the projecting portion 21 and between the side walls 22. The upper edges of the side walls 22 are grooved and receive the adjacent portions of the lower edges of the side flanges 20 of the channel bars 13 as in Figure 4, and it is thus obvious that the sepa rators 19 not only serve to maintain properly spaced relation between the beams 11 which will permit of free circulation of air throughout the deck, but also act to shed rain and moisture from the I-beams 10 between the deck beams so as to insure greater life and reduce cost of upkeep.
It will be observed from Figure 4 that waterproof sheet material 25 of any suitable character may be used between the beams 11 and the cross battens 12, for the protection of the latter, and it will be seen from Figure 2 in particular that only the end sections are fastened to the I-beams 10, and these sections are simply connected by lugs 26. seen also in Figure 3, secured by bolts 27 similar to the bolts 15 and removal of which permits of removal of the entire deck, section by section, from its supporting I-beams 10.
It will also be observed by reference to Figures 2 and 3 that each section has its end battens 12 so spaced as to engage the outer edges of the outer supporting I-beams 10, thus preventing endwise displacement of each section as well as displacement of the separators.
I claim:
1. A deck or platform for vehicle scales, consisting of a series of lengthwise disposed supporting beams, a plurality of transversely disposed deck sections resting on said beams, each section including a series of spaced parallel beams, battens beneath and connecting the beams of each sect-ion, and fastening means engaging the end sections with the supporting beams to hold the several sections in place.
2. A deck or platform for vehicle scales, consisting of a series of lengthwise disposed supporting beams, a plurality of transversely disposed deck sections resting on said beams. each section including a series of spaced parallel beams, battens beneath and connecting the beams of each section, and fastening means engaging the end sections with the supporting beams to .hold the several sections in place. each section having its end battens disposed to engage the outer sides of the outer supporting bhlDS ot the series to prevent lengthwise displacement of the section.
3. A deck or platform for vehicle scales, consisting of a series of lengthwise supporting beams, a series of deck sections disposed transversely of and along said supporting beams, each section including spaced parallel connected beams, and separators between the sections and between the beams of each section, disposed above and across the supporting beams to protect the latter.
4. A deck or platform for vehicle scales, consisting of a series of lengthwise supporting beams, a series of deck sections disposed transversely of and along said supporting beams, each section including spaced parallel connected beams, and channel bars inverted over and along the beams of each section and connected thereto.
5. A deck or platform for vehicle scales, consisting of a series of lengthwise supporting beams, a series of deck sections disposed transversely of and along said supporting beams, each section including spaced parallel connected beams, and channel bars inverted over and along the beams of each section and connected thereto, said channel bars having theirfianges depending between the beams covered thereby, and separators between the beams and engaged by said channel bar flanges, disposed above and across the supporting beams.
6. A deck or platform for vehicle scales, consisting of a series of lengthwise'supporting beams, a series of deck sections disposed transversely of and along said supporting beams, each section including spaced parallel connected, beams, and channel bars .in'verted over and along the beams of each section and connected thereto, said channel bars having their flanges depending between the beams covered thereby, and separators between the beams and engaged by said channel bar flanges, disposed above and across the supporting beams, each separator havin side walls with grooved upper edges receiving said flanges and also having oppositely inclined lengthwise upper faces'between said side walls. i
