citizen of the United States, and a resident ofy New York` in the county of 'New York and State of New York. have invented a certain new and usefulimprovement in Antiskid Devices for Shoe Heels, of which the followingis a full7 clear7 and exactspeciication.
This invention relates more particularly to a class of devices adapted to be used in conjunction with the footwear of persons.
My invention hasfor its object primarily to provide a device designed tobe applied especially on the heels of shoes, boots and other footwear of persons so that the wearer when walking on slippery highways will be prevented from slipping. The invention consists essentially of Aflexible supporting band of a size to adapt it to be removably disposed around a shoe heel, and this band is preferably formed of two diverging sections and a transverse section. The transverse section may be of a length correspond ing approximately to the length of the straight edge of the shoe heel, while each of the diverging sections are of lengths corresponding` substantially to one-half of the curved edge of the heel, and the opposed ends of the sections of the band may be Inovably connected by rings. To the central parts of both of the diverge/'ing sections are held the ends of one or two spaced flexible anti-skid or line elements which depend from the band in parabolic fashion for being` disposed crosswise of the underside of the heel. To the central parts of both of these line elements is held one end portion of a third flexible anti-skid or line elenient having its second end held to the central part of the transverse section of the supporting band.` and this third line element also depends from the band so as to be disposed on the underside of the heel augularly with respect to the pair of transverse line eleinents. Thus these anti-skid elements serve to engage the surface of the highway on which the wearer of the device may be walking to prevent slipping.
Another object of therinvention is to provide means for detachably fasteningthe band with the flexible anti-skid elements to the heel of a shoe; and a further object of the invention is to provide an anti-skid device which may be made in any desired size to tit different types of shoe heels.

The line elements 22, 22?, `27 maybe inade oi? metal chains or other flexible material, and as thus employed the line elements will serve to prevent the wearer of the device from slipping when walkingl on slippery highways by rea son oi: the movements or' the feet of the person when accidentally slipping being in forward directions, the line elements 22 and 23 being prevented by the line element 27 v.trom moving under such strain toward the back of the shoe heel.
Serving as means to allow the band 10 with the flexible anti-skid or line elements 22, 23, 27 to be detachably fastened on a shoe, to the ring 17 is held one end of a flexible line or string,` 30, and to the ring 1S is held one end oie a flexible line 31, while to the ring- 19 is held one ol the ends of two flexible lines or strings 32 and 33. The strings or lines 30, 31, 32, 33 are ol' lengths so that when guided upon the shoe to its instep the :tree ends of the strings will considerably overlap.
ln practicel one of the devices is prei'ieraA bly removably applied to the heel olf each shoe ot the wearer in a manner whereby the flexible chain band 1.0 circumscribes the heel ot the shoe and so that the rings 17, 18, 1 9 will extend upwardly upon the shoe respectively at the corners and back of the curved edge ot' the heel. The flexible anti-skid or line elements: 22, 23, :.7 will then he disposed upon the under-sA .e et the heel, as illustrated and hereinbegtore explained., These parts of t le device are detachably fastened on the the str f 3() 81 heling arranged upon 'the shoe tying their 'tree ends on the instep of shoe, and byi'arranging the strings 32 and on the shoe so that their tree ends may be tied together also npon the instep of the shoe. By tightening the strings 30, 31, 32, 33 properly the band 10 and the line elements 22, 23,' 27 will snugly fit the heel, thus providing a simple and etlicient device whereby persons will be prevented Yfrom slipping when walking on slippery highways, as well as Venabling the wearer to walk with ease and comfort in that the arrangement ot the line or chain elements 22, 23, 27 provide a tread surface h will not tend to cause the ankles to accidentally turn. l
ln the foregoing description, l have ernbodied the preferred form of my invention, hut l do not wish to be understood as limiting myself thereto, as I am aware that modications may be ,made therein without departing 'from the principle, or sacriicing any off the advantages ol" this invention, therefore l reserve to myselfv the right to make such changes as Jfair y fall within the scope thereof.
