UNITED. STATES ALVIN L. BLACT', OF ALTO, TEXAS.
AMUSELENT DEVICE.
Application filed January 4, 1922. Serial No. 526,928.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALVIN L. BLACK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Alto, in the county of Cherokee and tate of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in an Amusement Device, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an amusement device and has for its principal object to provide means whereby the operator may be carried between two points by means of cars which are actuated by gravitation.
Another important object of the invention is to provide an amusement device of this nature which is of extremely simple construction, reliable in operation, inexpensive to manufacture, and well adapted to afford recreation and amusement as well as exercise to the user thereof.
With the above and numerous other objects in view, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and arrangement and combination of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed. a
In the drawing Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device,
Figure 2 is a top plan thereof,
Figure 3 is a fragmentary section through the device adjacent one platform, and
Figure 4 is a section taken at right angles through the structure shown in Figure 3.
Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that I have provided a pair of platforms 1 which are situated at a desired distance from each other and are supported at a desired height from the ground. These platforms are mounted on the vertically arranged standards 2 which are connected by the railings 3. A ladder 4 leads to each platform 1 so that ready access may be had thereto.
These platforms 1 are placed out of alignment with each other and have extending therefrom the track-ways 5. These trackways 5 are inclined toward the ground for a sulficient distance so as to give a car riding thereon suflicient momentum to carry the same to the end of the track. The end of each track is situated adjacent the opposite platform so that a rider may leave the track at its bottom end and climb the adjacent ladder so as to reach the upper end of the other track.
. A car 7 is provided for each track 5 and as shown to advantage in Figure 3 is provlded with thewheels 8 which may be of any preferred construction so as to readily ride on the tracks 9 provided in the trackways 5. A cable 10 is attached to the rear of each car 7 and is trained over the pulley 11 at the rear of each platform 1 and on the upper side thereof and passes through an aperture in the platform so as to be trained over a pulley 13 on the under face thereof. This cable 10 then extends over pulleys 13 and 14 which are situated adjacent the bottom end of the incline on each track-way5. Thus it will be seen, by referring to Figure 1, that should an occupant get into the car 7 or platform 1 to the right he will be transported down the incline of the adjacent track-way to the end thereof and at the same time the cable 10 will pull the other car to the top of the other platform 1. The occupant, therefore, may get out of the first car. climb the adjacent ladder, and get onto'the car at the other platform. This may be carried on indefinitely without the aid of any power thereby affording considerable amusement, pleasure and exercise to the person using the device.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new is In combination, a pair of track-ways disposed side by side and each provided with an inclined portion, said inclined portions extending in opposite directions from each other, a car on each track-way, a plurality of pulleys on each track-way, some of said pulleys being situated at the top of each incline and others adjacent the bottom thereof, and a cable trained over said pulleys and attached to the rear end of the cars in the manner and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ALVIN. L. BLACK.
Witnesses I '1. J. WILCOX, R. F. WALKER.
