Specification of Letters Patent. Patgntefl -A g 3922 Application filed October 10, 1919 Serial-No. 329,746. Renewed'November 3, 1921. Serial No. 512,570.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLAUDE MOORE, a citi- 'zen of the United States ofAmerica, and a I resident of Cedar Rapids,-.. Linn County,
Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pneumatic Caps, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements. in pneumatic, caps, and the object of my improvement is to supply a double walled inflatable elastic cap for the use of persons swimming, or boating, which will be waterproof, comfortable, and insure the safety of the user while in the water.
This object I have accomplished by the means which arehereinafter described and claimed, andwhich are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Fig: 1 isa side elevation of the pneumatic cap as in place on the wearer, and Fig.2 is a medial vertical longitudinal section of the same, both said Figs. land 2 depicting the can its inflated condition.
Similar numerals of reference denote corresponding parts throughout the. several views;
The pneumatic cap shown is made from elastic waterproof material of any suitable kind, such as soft rubber. It may also be, of any desired shape or dimensions, as slight variations therein will nevertheless come withinthe principle of my invention.
The cap comprises an inner or skull-capl, preferably shaped to easily conform to the shape of and surround the skull of the wearer elastically when fitted thereon. Thev numeral 2 denotes an outer enclosure spaced from the cap 1 but united therewith at their edges, and the parts 1 and 2 may be integral 'or may be separate parts suitably united at their abutting edges, both parts being elastic, waterproof and imperforate, except that the outer enclosure 2 may be provided with an air valve or closable opening or port 4 to permit of proper inflation.
Thecap is also preferably supplied with an elastic marginal strip 3 united thereto all around its edge, which affords the proper tension'to the edge coupled with increased strength to hold the edge parts of the cap in tight contact w1th the person of the wearer to Xrevent ingress of water.-
pneumatlc cap of the character described aflords enough additional buoyancy to support the head ofthe wearer above the water, and hence provides asure safeguard,
for it cannot become displaced upon the person.
This cap may be used by presons in swimmlng or learnmg to SWIID, or whenever it is necessary for one to be 'inthe water, and is fdesirable' for use by persons boating or canoeing especially when the wearer is unable to swim,
Having described my invention, what I Claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:v
1. A pneumatic cap of waterproofelastic material, comprising a skull-cap shaped to ,firmly holdit on the head of the wearer and an inflatable enclosing cover spaced'therefrom.
2. A pneumatic cap, comprising a skull-' cap shaped to firmly-hold it on the head of the wearer, and an inflatable elastic cover therefor united thereto at their abutting edges.
3. A skull-cap and a spaced elastic surroundingcover therefor, integral therewith, having means for firmly holding them on the head of the wearer, and both imperforate and waterproof. I
4. A pneumatic cap comprising a cup-- shaped elastic bod w th spaced inflatable hollow walls, rein orced around their common edge, to elastically retain it on the head ofthe wearer and provided with-a closable valve.
3 Signed at Waterloo, Iowa, this 6th day of September, 1919, v
pneumatic-cap, comprising an elastic omens Moore
