drawing, A' designates ,a sill at :th-e1 bottoni i of 'an opening that is closed sash or the likefBL f The waterproofing device includes a inember t adapted to be 'securedftothe' sill; f This member hasV a. substantially: flat web portizjin 5 arranged' to extend across that portion ot thefsillthat's directlybelow theisash when closedand tofbeheld tightly down against the siii. 5
by a 'Swingin i `55 `Atthe @outer e'dge'ot the flat portion, the `material of' the member lentends f y downwardly vand j thenceV upwardly,l wherebv "5" a gutter' 6` is provided, and f in the vbottoni-ii" of the gutter at suitable intervals are 'drain-y' vents 7 arranged to permit-watei''to'Ldrop o utside 0f5thewindoW-opening. The material ofvthe member extends inwardly and with anFupward inclinationwithfrespect to the bottom of tli'esash Jfroml the outside and upper portion 'of the guttei` as a iiange 8, and
free edge ofthe 'flange extends* the upperor upwardly as alipy 9, which has tendency to deter the passage ot water'into the other member of the device.
llhenthe sill doesnot have an outside drop or abutmenh such Fig; f1, ltor accommodate the downwardly-ex as shown' at A in n tending gutter 6, themeinberf maybe at tached to a strip A secur'ed'to'an'd extending across the'sil-l under the sash,^as shown byFig.-3. L ,Anotherl member 1l) 4is arranged to be attached toftlie sash ate withthe"l Xed member/t. The member or the like andto cooper-` lOincludes va substantially fiatV web portion o 1l arranged to be secured tightly againstthe voutside or the sashlalong the edge portion adjacent to the*,"sill;'faiid,"in order to contribute to the tightness oiz the web and the sashandto the'l association ot those parts, portion oi flange 12,-"
the free edge thefwebs is bent inwardiy as a which isgletzinto the material et Y the sash. The materiall of the member along thel opposite or lower edge of the web is bent upon itself slightly,L upwardly f to form a drip-lipl, 4'and thence it extends inwardly of the sash as an upper wall'l4 and thence outwardly as an opposite wall or iiange 15, which has its `tree-edge portion bent downwardly as a drip-lip 16. A substantially U- shaped pocket 17 thus is providedthat eX- tends inwardly or the sash, the material et the latter being cut away to receive the 'the joint between the firmness et ioo pocket, and the wall i4 and the inner portion n of the pocket seat tightly against the sashr material. The flange l5 has a downward inclination .corresponding approximately to the inclination of the flange 8 of' member 4; o and, when the sash or the like carrying member lO is closed, the flange extends under flange 8. f
The member 4 is held securely in position y nails, screws, or other similar fastenings driven through the web V5 into the sill or into the strip A, and the member 10 by similar fastenings driven intothe sash ythrough the web 11 and through the material at the end of the pocket 17.
It will be seen like is closed, the flange l5 thereon` extends under the flange 8 fixed on the sill, and that 1 water driven in over the latter flange andA its lip 9 will pass into pocket 17, whence it will drain over flange 15j into the out through the vents 7, and thereby will be prevented from enteringthe window ror other opening between the sash or its equivalent and the sill.
The two members of theV device are so relatively 'termed that their respective flanges do nbt contact with each other, and thus lia bility of the parts binding', catching, or otherwise interfering with the closing and opening of' the sash or the likeI is avoided.A
Ha ving thus described my invention, what o lY claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s` a l. As a part of a weatherstrip device, a
member comprising a substantially flat web arranged to be secured against the outsideof a closure and having its material extending inwardly from the lower edge of the web as the upper wall;Y of a pocket portion arranged to seat against material of thev closure to which the member is attached, and having itsmaterial also extending outwardly and downwardly 'from'the inner end of the pocket portion as the lower wall thereof. h
2. As a part of a weatherstrip device, a
member comprising a substantially flat web arranged to be secured against thekoutside of a closure and havingy its upper edge disposed inwardly and capable of being let into the material to which the member is attached, the material of the memberextend-y ing inwardly from the lower edge of the web as the upper wall of a pocket portion arranged to seat against material of the elo# surevto whichthe member is attached, andv that, when the sash or the gutter 6 and the material of vthe member also extending youtwardly and downwardly from the, inner end of the pocket portion as the lower wall thereof.
3. As a part of a weatherstrip device, a sheet-metal member comprising a substair' tially fia-t web arranged to be secured against the outside of a closure, the material of the member along. the lower edge ol the web being bent upon itself and affording a drip-lip and thence extending in iardly as the upper wall of a pocket portion arranged to seat against material of the closure to which the member is attached, and the materialfof the member also extending outwardly and downwardly from the inner end of the pocket as the lower wall thereof,
4;. As a lpart of a weatherstrip device, va member comprising a substantially flat web arrangedto be secured against `the outside of a closure, the member having its material extending inwardly from the lower edge Ot the web as a wall of a pocket `portion arranged to seat against material of' the clo sure to which the member is attached, and the member also having its material extending outwardly and downwardly from the inner end of the pocket portion as the lower wall thereof and the latter wall drip-lip. n
5. As a part of a weatherstrip device, a sheet-metal member comprisinga substan-l. tially flat web arranged to be secured against the outside of a closure and having its upper edge portion turned inwardly and capable of being let into the material ytok which the member is attached,v the material of the member along the lower edge of the web being bent upon itself and affording a drip-lip and thence extending inwardly as the upper wall of a pocket portion arranged to seat against the material of the disposed downwardly asa f closure to which the member is attached,
in presence of two witnesses.
