Description

a. E. H. SPILLER. GUARD FOR CIRCULAR SAWS.
APPLICATION FILED OCT. 3, 192].
Patented July 1-1, 1922 1:: ITED STATES PATEN GUARD FOR CIRCULAR SAWS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 11, 1922.
Application filed October 3, 1921. Serial No. 504,940.
To all whom it may concern:
'Be it known that I, GILBERT ELPHINSTONE HARVEY SPILLER, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Eaglehurst, Chagford, Devonshire, England, have invented new and useful Improvements in Guards for Circular Saws, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to guards for circular saws which work in a slot in a saw bench.
According to this invention the guard consists of a casing fixed to the saw bench and a drawer sliding in the casing and having two plates on each side, spaced apart in order to leave a gap between the plates. The side plates are mounted upon angle irons which are secured together by bolts passing through tubes whose ends abut against the angle irons. The drawer has an'end plate secured to the side plates which plate may be provided with a handle.
A metal plate may be secured to the saw bench to form a guide for the angle irons. The casing has two side plates and a top of greater length than the width of the side plates.
The accompanying drawing shows a guard made in accordance with this invention.
Figure 1 is a side elevation, Figure 2 a plan, Figure 3 an end elevation and Figure 4 a perspective View.
A saw bench at has a slot 6 through which a circular saw 0 extends. To the bench at is secured by bolts 03 a casing having two side plates 6 and a top plate 7 of a length greater than the width of the side plates e so that it extends above the saw 0. A drawer slides in the casing, which drawer is constructed of two angle irons g secured together at each end by bolts h passlng through tubes j whose ends abut against the angle irons. To each angle iron 9 are secured plates is and Z, a space being left between the plates as shown. An end piece 97?. is secured to the plates Z and the end piece m is provided with a handle 0 by which the drawer is moved.
A guide for the angle irons, consisting of a covered by the guard throughout the operatlon.
What I claim is 1. A guard for a circular saw working in a slot in a saw bench, consisting of a casing fined to the bench and a drawer adapted to sllde in the casing and having two plates spaced apart on each side.
2. A guard for a circular saw working in a slot in a saw bench, consisting of a casing fixed to the bench and having two side plates and a top plate of a length greater than the width of the side plates, and a drawer adapted to slide in the casing and having two plates spaced apart on each side.
3. A guard for a circular saw working in a slot in a saw bench, consisting of a casing fixed to the bench and a drawer adapted to slide in the casing and having two plates spaced apart on each side and secured to an angle iron on each side, the angle irons being secured together by bolts passing through tubes whose ends abut. against the angle irons.
4. A guard for a circular saw working in a slot in a saw bench, consisting of a casing fixed to the bench, having two side plates and a top plate of a length greater than the width of the side plates, and a drawer adapted to slide in the casing and having two plates spaced apart on each side and secured to an angle iron on each side, the angle irons being secured together by bolts passing through tubes whose ends abut against the an le irons.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name this 13th day of September, 1921.
