Description

R. F. SCHILLER.
SHOE STRING TIP. AFPLICATION FILED FEB. 21, 1922.
Patented July 4, 1922.
INVENTOR ATTORNEY WITNESS:
"a a a e? i ar SHOE-STRING TIP.
Application filed February 21, 1922.
T0 aZZ whom it may concern Be it known that I, RUDOLPH F. SCHIL- LER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sun Prairie, in the county of Dane and State of Wisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Shoe-String Tips, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention has reference to a novel and effective tip for shoe strings.
My object is to produce a tip for shoe strings that shall comprise a cylinder of woven wire or the like, and which is formed or otherwise provided with impinging elements to enter the shoe string when the shoe string is inserted through the tip, the construction of the said tubular member rendering the same susceptible to longitudinal expansion and lateral contraction which is brought about by a longitudinal pulling 011 the strands, so that the tip can be attached to the string in an easy, quick and thoroughly eflicient manner.
The foregoing objects may be accomplished by a construction, combination and arrangement of parts, such as is disclosed by the drawing which accompanies and which forms part of this specification.
In the drawing Figure l is a side elevation of the tip, on a greatly enlarged scale.
Figure 2 is a similar View showing the tip stretched from the end of a shoe string.
Figure 3 is an approximately central longitudinal sectional view or the construction illustrated in Figure 2.
As disclosed by the drawing, the tip 1 for the shoe string 2 is or a tubular or cylindrical formation, the same being constructed of wire, tin, copper, or any other desired metal or material. By reference to the drawing, it will be seen that the strands constituting the improvement are woven to Specification ofLetters Patent.
Patented July 4, 1922. Serial No. 538,180.
provide blocks which are arranged in diagonal series, the said blocks being diamondshaped in plan, and any desired number of these blocks are integrally formed with impi in elements 3 which enter the fabric sti ng 2 when the cylindrical tip 1 is moved longitudinady on the string to expand the same and such longitudinal ex aansion will cause the lateral contraction of the tip so that the impinging elements 3 will enter the slice string. The impinging elements 3 are directed outwardly with respect to the ends or the shoe string and when the tip is once positioned thereon the same cannot be pulled oil of the string as is common with the ordinar classes of such tips.
Having described the invention, I claim l. A tip for shoe strings comprising a cylindrical member having its bore provided with impinging elements, said tip designed, when inserted over a shoe string to be pulled from the opposite ends thereof to expand the same longitudinally and to contract the same laterally and in such contraction to cause the impinging elements to enter the shoe string.
2. tip for shoe strings comprising a cylindrical member formed of woven material to provide diagonally arranged over and underlying portions, said tip having outwardly directed impinging elements in the bore thereof and being susceptible to longitudinal expansion and to lateral contraction and when so expanded and contracted designed to have its impinging elements enter the shoe string when the latter is inserted through the tip.
in testimony whereof I ture.
aflix my signa- RUDOLPH F. SCHILLER.
