To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that DANIEL J. DEEGAN, citizen of the United States of America, residing at Youngstown, in the county of lvlahouing and State of Ohio, has invented certain new anduseful Improvements in Perforators for Printing Presses, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in perforators for printing presses; and the invention consists in the details of construction set forth in the following specifications and claims. and illustrated in the annexed drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a plan view of the perforator in a chase.
Figure 2 is a plan view of the tympan showing the improved steel strip secured to tympan-sheets.
Figure 3 is a plan view of the improved steel strip.
Figure 4i steel strip.
Figure 5 is a side elevation of the perforatin blade.
Many devices have been used in the printingof the receipt-forms, checks, or orders, that are to be detached from stubs, whereby it is necessary to perforate or partially break the paper so that the receipt or check can be easily torn off. Such perforating has usually been accomplished by means of a serrated perforating blade in the type form. said blade being a trifle higher than the type.

By referring to Figure 1 it will be seen I have provided a chase 1. lVithin this rhase 1. I have shown the serrated perforating blade 2, which is slightly shorter in height than the type 3.
By referring to Figure 2 it will be seen that I have provided an ordinary tympan 1 with a desired number of tympan sheets 5 secured thereto. Secured to these tympan sheets 5,1 have provided an improved steel strip (3 which has arrow pointed ends '7 and S, which pierce the desired number of tympan sheets 5 at points 9 and 10 on the tympan sheets 5.
is a side vi w of the improved By referring to Figures 3 and 4 it will be seen that the improved steel strip 6 is provided with brads 11, said brads 11 having a vertical edge 12. In installing the improved steel strip 6 the arrow point 8 is pushed through the tympan sheets at point 9. The operator by bending the central portion of the improved steel strip 6 upward, and pressing downwardly upon the arrow point 7, the arrow point 7 is caused to penetrate the tympan sheets 5 at point 10. The improved steel strip 6 is now pushed downwardly so that the brads 11 seat themselves in the tympan sheets 5. The vertical edge 12 of the brads 11 hold the improved steel strip 6 from longitudinal movement, as well as from a sidewise movement.
It will be noticed that these brads 11 are formed on the improved steel strip 6 at approximately one-fourth the distance of the entire length, or at points 13. This improved steel strip 6 is placed so that when the tympan comes in contact with the type form, the improved steel strip 6 registers with the serrated perforating blade 2. It is understood that these improved steel strips 6 may vary in thickness. so as to cause perforations as desired.
That I claim is:
1. In a device of the class described, a serrated perforating blade slightly shorter in height than ordinary type, a steel strip secured to tympan sheets by means of arrow points at each end, there being a plurality of brads formed on the sides of said improved steel strips, and a vertical side to said brads, substantially as described for the purpose set forth.
2. In a device of the class described, a serrated perforating blade slightly shorter in heightthan ordinary type, a steel strip varying in thickness, said steel strip provided with arrow points at each end, there being a plurality of brads formed on the sides of said improved steel strips, and a vertical side to said brads, substantially as described for the purpose set forth.
