Description

J. A. P. ERICKSON.
CANDLE.
APPLICATION FILED JAN. 19, um.
1,%2@ %?6 a Patented June 29, 1922.
WITNESSES I l/VVE/VTQI? entree stares JQHN A. E. ERICKSON, F NORTHLAND, IEINNWOIA.
German.
To all whom it may concern:
' Be it-known that I, JOHN A. P. EnronsoN,
a citizen of the United States, and a -resident of Northland, in the county of St.
Louis and State of Minnesota, have invented invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and ar rangements of parts, as Wlll be morefully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim.
The accompanying drawing is a view partly in longitudinal section and partly in elevation of my improved candle.
Referring in detail to the drawing, 1 represents the wick of my improved candle. The wick is composed ofa suitable number of cotton strings or similar flexible inflammable devices dipped in a mixture of lard or similar substance, and ,metal filings. The wick is molded into a candle 2 in the usual Specification of Letters latent. P tented June 2th, 1922., Application filed January 19, 1921'. Serial No. 438,480.
is .oftallow, wax, or some other material commonly used for the purpose.
When-the candle is lighted the metal filings'in the wick will be heated and thrown laterally and upwardly from the candle and 40 fall therefrom in a glowing condition. The color of the sparks will of course depend on the character of the metal filings used, it being desirable to use filings which will emit glowlng sparks of a character adapted to contrast strongly with the light of the burn-' ing candle.
I am aware that metal filings have been used to throw out sparks from burning torches, and do not claim this idea as my own. I rather wish to cover the idea of a candle in which such filings are normally imbedded and concealed in the wick.
Various slight changes and alterations might be made in the general form and arrangement of the parts described without departing from the invention, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise details set forth but consider myself at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall so within the spirit and scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is: e
A spark emitting candle, including an inflammable body portion, a wick embedded in said body portion, and metal filings adherently associated with said wick.
JQHN A. P. ERICKSON.
