JOHN L. HUDSON, OF OUMMING, GEORGIA.
IMPROVEMENTl lN RAILWAY-RAIL JOINTS.
' Specification forming part of Letters Patent N o. 1112.020, dated August 19, 1873; application led June 25, 1873.
.To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN L. HUDSON, of Cumming, in the county of Forsyth and in the State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Railroad Rail and Joint; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this speciiication.
The nature of my invention consistsin the combination of rails having anges formed on their under sides, a chair with corresponding grooves, and curved plates covering the joints on the sides of the rails, all as hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the annexed drawings, A A represent the two contiguous rails of a track. The bottom side of each is provided with a flange, B, which extends downward, and which may be made in the shape seen, or it may be V or other suitable shape. The chair D has a depression or groove formed in it to correspond-with the rib or flange on the rail. The rib or flange iits snugly into this depression or groove, and thus the rail is held more securely and with less chance of spreading or separating. Upon each side of the rails, at their joints, are bolted the curved metallic plates C (h These plates fit snugly against the rails, and serve to break the joint between them and bind them iirmly together.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim is- The combination ofthe rails AA, with dan ges B B on their under sides, the grooved chair D, and curved plates O O, all constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
` 1 In testimony that claim the Vforegoing I have hereunto set my hand this 5th day of June, 1873.
J. L. HUDSON.
