' IMPROVEMENT INRECIPROCATING CHURN-DASHERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 142,007, dated August 19, 1873; applicationfiled March 26, 1873..
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, TIMOTHY EARLE, of Valley Falls, county of Providence, in the State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Churns, of
- which the following is a Specification:
The nature of my invention consists in combining with the air-pump chamber of a churndasher a combined cap and valve, which can be easily removed when desirable. The object of this device is to furnisha churn with a dasher which shall serve as an air-pumpin g dasher while churning, and yet admit of being used as anordinary dasher for butter-working, by simply removing the capand valve.
The drawing represents my invention in vertical section.
Let E represent the barrel of the churn, which may be made of any suitable size and style. A is a concaved. dasher, of whichG is a hollow handle, at the upperend of which I place a screw-cap, G. Within this cap I place the valve 1), which is held up by the spring a and stud b, so that as the dasher goes down it closes and prevents the air from escaping; but when the dasher is drawn up the air can rush in to fill the space under the dasher. Thus the handle G of the dasher becomes an air-pump, and constantly throws air into the cream.
When buttrifaction takes place, the forcing in air is an injury, and to prevent it I remove the cap 0 and its valve. By this change the dasher becomes suitable for working over the butter and freeing it from the milk. 7
I claim as my invention-- The combination with the hollow dasherhandle G, the cap and valve 0 and 1), ar-' ranged substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
