To all whom it may concern Be it known thatI, OTTO PAUL CRAMER, engineer, citizen of Germany, residing in Geneva, Switzerland, and whose post-ofiice address is118 Rue des Eaux-Vives, have invented certain new-and useful Improve ments in Gas and Air Regulating Devices for Incandescent Mantle Burners; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enableothers skilled in the art to which it appertain's to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompany ing drawings, and to letters or figuresof reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The principle of regu'latingthe admission of gas in incandescent mantle burners, th'at is, by the use of an injecting device wherein the regulating socket ismovable upon a stationary core provided with a needle,is well greater or less. y
In the disposition according to my invention, the screw thread is omitted, and. only a smooth cylindrical surface exists between the socket and the core. The socket is caused to rise ordescend with reference to the core carrying the needle by means of a pin which is provided upon the socket, the said pin passing through an oblique slot in the burnertube. By moving the pin in the horizontal direction it ismade to follow the inclination of the oblique slot, thus. causing the socket to descend vertically and causing. it to recede from the needle; thereby affording an increased flow of gas.
For rotating the movable socket of the injector it is preferable to make use of a ring provided with a toothed slot engaging a key provided with a pinion and this toothed slOt device is also applicable to efiect the vertical or horizontal movement of the ring or the bell-shaped member for regulating the admission of" air.

Referring .to' theconstruction' of the injector shown in Figs. 1 andf2, the fixed core 1 carrying the needle 2 isconstituted'by a smooth cylindrical portion 3 upon which the movable socket tmay be moved vertically, the latter being provided with astufling box 5 whose packing 6 is pressed upon the smooth portion 3 of' the fixed core 1. The movable socket 4 may be moved by means of a pin or handle? extending through an oblique slot 8 in the fixed tube 9 of the burner. This movement may be effected either in, a direct-manner by the pin 7 if the latter is given the form of a,hand le, or by means of a ring provided with a rack, as willbe hereafter set forth.

Instead of disposing the said recess for receiving impuritiesin. the lower'part of the core 1, this recess 10 may be disposed at the admission end of the connecting member, as
shown in Figs. 5 and 6, and in order to cause the impurities to fall; into the recess and to provide a free passage for the gas, the recess is coveredby a small square member formed of corrugated sheet metal. Instead of rotating the movable socket 4 by means of a handle 7 which is movable within a slot 8 formed in the burner tube, Fig. 2, this movement may be carried out by means of a ring 16 having a slot 17 provided with teeth 17, Figs. 7 and 8, which is mounted upon the burner tube 9.
The ring 16 is provided with a second vertical aperture 18 wherein passes a screw 7 secured to the movable socket of the injecting device whereby the latter Shall .be
actuated upon moving the ring 16 by means of a key with milled head 19 having one portion in the form of a toothed'pinion at 20 engaging the rack 17 of the ring 16.
. In order to prevent dust from being drawn into theair apertures, the usual type of ring is replacedby a bell shaped member 21, Figs. 7 and 10, provided in the interior with four vanes 22 which are out out fiatwise in the bottom of the-bell shaped member (Fig. 10)
and then curved inwardly in order to more or less close'the usual apertures formed in the tube 9 of the burner. Adjacent the bottom of the bell-shaped member 21 is formed 1. great advantage from the fact that having a a rectangular aperture 17", Figs. 7 and 9, having one side thereof 17 toothed to constituteia rack engaging the pinion 20 forming part of the stem 19*.
Instead of applying the arrangement to v a bell-shaped member, the same may be applied to effect the movement of a ring of the usual type'provided with apertures 23 (Fig. 11) and having formed therein the aperture 17* with the tooth portion 17.
If the adjustment is to be obtained by the vertical movement of a ring 23 upon an aperture 24: formed in the burner tube, Fig. 12, the cut out portion 17 with the teeth 17 c is disposed vertically upon the said ring.

Having now particularly described and ascertainedfthe nature of my said invention vand in what manner the same is to be per-v formed, I declare that what I claim is 1. A gas and. air regulating device for incandescent mantle burners, comprising a stationary injector core with regulating needle, a regulating socket Without screw thread which is vertically movable upon the stationary core, a stuiiing box with packing clamping thesmooth portion of the Sta-- tionary core, an inclined slot in the burner tube, a'pin engaged in the said inclined slot i and in a vertical slot, arevoluble ringhaving a vertical slot formed therein, a horizontal slot provided with rack teeth formed'in the said revoluble ring, a pinion ,with actuating stem for rotating thering and conse-' quently the movable socket of the injector, an air regulating bell shaped member disposed below the said injector, vanes which are cut out of the end-portion of the saidbell shaped member and are adapted to cover the air admission orifices, a groove provided'with rack teeth formed inthe bellshaped member, and a pinion with actuating stem for rotating the said bell shaped member.
